NRA Now Leans Toward Endorsing Harry Reid
Red State ^ | Thursday, July 1st at 8:00AM EDT | Posted by Erick Erickson (Profile)

Multiple sources tell me the National Rifle Association is planning to endorse liberal Harry Reid against pro-gun champion Sharron Angle.

Two weeks ago, I told you about the carveout the NRA received in exchange for their support for the DISCLOSE ACT deal.

Then this week, RedState broke the story of the “gag order” the NRA issued to members of its Board on the Kagan nomination.

Now, I’m getting credible reports that the NRA is leaning toward endorsing Harry Reid, even though the NRA is finally saying it will score a vote on Kagan — something that was not a sure thing.

Why would they do this? Why would they go out of their way to protect a Senator who has demonstrated a repeated hostility to the Second Amendment in his votes and his leadership?

Well, I thought perhaps the NRA carveout in the DISCLOSE Act might be the answer. But, there is more. It turns out, Reid secured a $61 million earmark for a gun range in Clark County, Nevada.

I learned what the NRA was all about back in the early 1990’s when they endorsed an Alabama Congressman up for reelection after he had voted FOR the Brady Bill.

What has happened to the leadership of NRA?

Chris Cox.

Regardless, it appears obvious a major schism has developed between the NRA-ILA executive director and several members of the board of directors. As one board member told me, “The bottom line is Chris (Cox) wants to have all decisions go through him and have no board involvement in decisions about or communications with Congress. He was the problem with the DISCLOSE Act. He’s the issue re the SCOTUS nominees.”

If they do that, they can forget my dues.

Harry Reid is excrement in human form.

Now that letter is in the trash.

The anti-gun NRA endorsing a gun grabber. No surprise here.

You are either with us or against us.... as a country.

If the NRA does this, they will not get one more dime from me.

My NRA memories include the bumper sticker “Defend Firearms, Support Specter” that went on many a pickup truck in Pennsylvania.

I had heard rumblings.
If they endorse Reid, I will (sadly) end my membership, (one of the reasons I go year-to-year - just in case).
I have a feeling the NRA may lose a million (or more) like me.

I’m a longtime Life Member, but it’s crap like this that led me to stop giving money to the NRA well over ten years ago.

I have always thought that the NRA leaders have been political opportunists who use the gun control issue to raise money from people who they regard as suckers. Their leaders are con artists who send out membership requests and contribution requests but they regard their members as dumb and will not stand up for them. The NRA opposed the recent lawsuit that overturned Chicago’s gun control law. They supported the recent disclosure law. The NRA is run by Washington insiders who have contempt for the American people. They will support Herry Reid and then send out a mailings asking for contributions to stop congress from violating our rights.

Well. We live in times where money works miracles. If this report reflects reality then at least we know where the NRA’s heart is!

I stopped supporting them when they actively tried to stop the Heller case from reaching the Supreme Court. I now support the GOA.

Just what in hell does the NRA think it is doing?

Harry Reid is in the cabal destroying the Constitution and the NRA is thinking of endorsing him??

What the hell are they thinking!!??

Yeah, I did a little research on the NRA site and discovered that they are, in fact, buddy-buddy with ol’ Harry Reid.

Still, this “unnamed sources” whisper campaign crap annoys me no end. It annoys me when the MSM does it, and it would be rather hypocritical of me if it didn’t annoy me when Red State does it too.

Besides, if I am reading the OP correctly, Erick Erickson is backing down from an earlier whisper campaign re: Elena Kagan.

Just sayin’... if NRA does in fact endorse Harry, I’ll never ever give them another look (or another nickel).
