McCain’s Challenger Says He Regrets Infomercial
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 06-25-10 | Eliza Gray

Posted on 06/25/2010 3:26:57 PM PDT by GOP_Lady

Former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth, the Republican primary challenger to Sen. John McCain in Arizona, said he had made a “mistake’’ in acting as a spokesman for a company that has been criticized for misleading consumers, the Associated Press reported.

In an infomercial taped in 2007, the National Grants Committee invited viewers to a seminar to learn how to access “hundreds of billions” of government grant money.

“It is for real!” Hayworth assured viewers, waiving his hands for emphasis. “Now, I understand the skepticism, in part because President Regan used to say the greatest contradiction ever uttered was ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help,’ but I’m telling yah this is really true.”

When the three-year-old ad resurfaced recently, the McCain campaign seized on it, producing its own ad that said Hayworth had sold a “lie’’ to viewers and suggesting he was a “pork barrel spender’’ and a “huckster.’’ McCain’s ad concludes with a photo of the senator and the slogan: “Character matters.’’

Hayworth has to go for the jugular this time, or it’s all over. McCain is a pathological liar, and a thug.

There's always tricking McCain into politically imploding.

Additionally, if he is sufficiently wounded yet manages to scrape through the primary, his Rat "friends" may be the ones to finish the job and take him out in the general.

John McCain cosigned a bill to allow the Feds to MAKE AMERICAN CITIZENS DISAPPEAR WITH NO RECOURSE. They could literally put a bag over your head, throw you in a van and put you in a secret prison, never to be heard from again.

I don’t care if he is running against that idiot Sham Wow dude, McCain has to go.

Stupid, but if all they’ve got is a commercial he made its pretty thin stuff. If you’re in radio and TV you do commercials. If you’re going to run for office later you should probably try to avoid doing anything really embarrassing, like men’s enhancement products or adult diapers or free government giveaways.

McCain, on the other hand, is still McCain. He’s taken time out from trampling the constitution underfoot and toadying up to the Obamists and the Sorosians just long enough to wrap up the election so he can get back to trampling and toadying full time.

It's not that it is embarrassing for the huckster-quality, it's that Hayworth is portraying himself as a fiscal conservative ... sorry, I don't buy the "Well, my friend J.C. Watts did one, I thought it was okay" whine. It's also not as though he's new to the table re: how bad the debt/annual deficit is to the nation, I remember well statements he made on the Floor back in the *revolution* years.

ON THE OTHER HAND, McCain is a total hypocrite himself, since I understand he's got a link on his own site on how to get yourself gubmint money, apply for grants. They are no different from pork barrel projects, ways to garner votes from folks by giving out tax dollars. BOTH of these pols are at fault, on the wrong side here -- unfortunately, Hayworth pulled a boner and it is going to cost him, worse, us.

McCain’s aggressive, dirt-digging campaign against Hayward begs the question: why he didn’t do the same against his target-rich opponent for the presidency?

I agree, the Sham-Wow dude would be an idiot, but still more honest than McCain. It must be tough to pretend to be a Republican when he just wants to hug the Democrats.

Thank God it was not one of those “buy Gold” scam commercials that every GOP talk show host seems to be doing....anyone doing talk radio is doing some sort of infomercial or sales spot for some company.

John McCain is always the bigger crook. His internal polling must look bad if he has just this to go on

Why did Hayworth apologize?
All he had to say was that taxpayers deserve to get their money back from the federal beast. Every Congressmen gave back money to their district, or helped their constituents get access to government funds. It's what Congressmen do.
Politicians should never apologize unless what they did was truly disgusting like speaking at a KKK rally.

Regrettably, it’ll probably be enough. There are a lot of weird and/or foolish people out here whoa re likely to swallow this — and besides, Hayworth isn’t doing enough to fight back or get his message out anyway... his whole campaign is doing so many things half-@$$ed that it’ll be a miracle if he beats McShame.

We need to be somehow getting that picture of McStain stepping on board that mob guy’s boat for a visit into wide distribution, i.e., ‘go viral’. McCain is a corrupt thug and he needs to have that metaphorical axe hitting his ankles until somebody yells “TIMMMBER!!!!!”

John McCain has a long time, well known GAMBLING problem! His support and $ come from questionable people with questionable ties.

Mafia ties:

In 1995, McCain sent birthday regards, and regrets for not attending, to Joseph "Joe Bananas" Bonano, the head of the New York Bonano crime family, who had retired to Arizona. Another politician to send regrets was Governor Fife Symington, who has since been kicked out of office and convicted of 7 felonies relating to fraud and extortion.

McCain's mafia ties go back further than that ... all the way back to Cindy McCain's mafia connected dad, who launched McCain's career and put him on the nipple of Charles Keating and friends. Cindy's dad took the fall for the mafia over illegal liqour distribution charges and was rewarded with a beer distributorship when he got out of the clink. Cindy's dad also helped the mob do some dirty business in the New Mexico horse racing market back in the day.

Why did McCain celebrate his birthday on a Mobster's Yacht?

The photograph substantiates reports that in late August, 2006, McCain celebrated his 70th birthday aboard a yacht, the Celine Ashley, rented by A-list con man Raffaello Follieri and his then-movie star girlfriend Anne Hathaway.

Follieri, who posed as Vatican chief financial officer in order to win friends and investments, pleaded guilty Wednesday in a Manhattan district court to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, eight counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering.

Hayworth could utterly destroy McStain if he wanted to. There is so much opposition research out there, you wouldn’t believe it. He’s probably been holding back his punches because there are still so many weeks left.
[Either that, or he just isn’t willing to go that far.]
