Obama volunteers face anger in gulf in wake of oil spill
Washington Post ^ | June 16, 2010 | Sandhya Somashekhar

Thousands of Obama's most ardent supporters like Gay-Allen are now filtering out into communities as part of the group's Vote 2010 campaign, aimed at persuading people who do not ordinarily participate in off-year elections to go to the polls in November.

Volunteers say those they approach are largely receptive, which is not surprising considering their primary target: voters who cast their first-ever ballots in 2008, a group that heavily backed Obama. But not all have a favorable view of the president. And some volunteers are vexed themselves -- not necessarily at Obama, but at the cascade of bad news that has made his campaign theme of hope difficult to maintain.

In Sarasota, Fla., where the oil has not yet reached the beaches but has already delivered a blow to the tourism industry, longtime Democratic activist Rick Farmer said his effort to win over voters has never been more difficult. The oil spill has deepened anxiety over persistent unemployment and an anemic housing market.

"I can't tell you how much anger there is out there," he said. "I have people ready to spit in my face."

Just because the president went on vacation and has done almost nothing about the oil spill, why should people be upset?

Gay-Allen is unemployed from the Boys and Girls club and now campaigns for Obama?

Does she not realize who’s slapped her in the face?

People who've been raised to believe that government can and should solve all problems are amazed to find that reality keeps disagreeing.

Thousands of Obama's most ardent supporters like Gay-Allen are now filtering out into communities as part of the group's Vote 2010 campaign

In September 2008, when it seemed like the financial system was going to implode, John McCain suspended his campaign so that he could perform his job as a senator and try to help.
Now, I don't like McCain. I think he made a dumb move. I wish the Stimulus had not been passed. But, I'm just saying that he tried to do what he thought was right.

Now we've got a crisis in the Gulf region, and Obama's supporters are fanning out across the area. To help people? To clean up beaches? Hell No! They just want your vote.

Government isn't here to help you. It's here to control you -- and they love it when you help them achieve that goal.

“Just because the president went on vacation and has done almost nothing about the oil spill, why should people be upset?”

In the last 59 days he spents 20 minutes (today) with the CEO of BP. Geeze, what do people expect? He had to make lunch today with gaff-o-matic Biden. Heaven knows that could not wait.
