White House says 51 percent of company health plans won't meet Obamacare guidelines

At Investor's Business Daily, Sean Higgins and David Hogberg have a doozy of a story:

Internal White House documents reveal that 51% of employers may have to relinquish their current health care coverage by 2013 due to ObamaCare. That numbers soars to 66% for small-business employers.

The documents — product of a joint project of the Labor Department, the Health and Human Services Department and the IRS — examine the effects new regulations would have on existing, or “grandfathered,” employer-based health care plans.

ObamaCare Vindication Watch: Majority of Workers Will Have to Change Health Coverage

During the health care debate, President Obama promised that those who liked their health care plans would be able to keep them. Critics of the legislation countered, however, that this was an empty promise, because the sweeping changes would nonetheless prompt employers to change health plans.

Obama Presses Congress on ‘Doc Fix’ (No "Doc Fix"! ObamaCare; The Epic Failure)

Posted on Saturday, June 12, 2010 11:28:16 AM by tobyhill

President Obama called Saturday for Congress to avert a planned 21 percent pay cut for doctors who see Medicare patients, saying the move, which would cost taxpayers billions of dollars, is necessary to insure the health of older Americans.

The so-called “doc fix” has been stalled in the Senate, and if lawmakers do not approve the spending, the cuts will take effect next week. Mr. Obama used his weekly Internet address to warn that if Republicans block a vote on the issue, it would “undoubtedly force some doctors to stop seeing Medicare patients altogether.”

Doctors and Hospitals Say Goals on Computerized Records Are Unrealistic (another ObamaCare failure)

In February 2009, as part of legislation to revive the economy, Congress provided tens of billions of dollars to help doctors and hospitals buy equipment to computerize patients’ medical records.

But the eligibility criteria proposed by the Obama administration are so strict and so ambitious that hardly any doctors or hospitals can meet them, not even the most technologically advanced providers like Kaiser Permanente and Intermountain Healthcare.

Health-care rules may force some to change coverage, leaked document suggests

President Obama said repeatedly during the health-care debate that people who like their current coverage would be able to keep it. But an early draft of an administration regulation estimates that many employers will be forced to change their health plans under the new law.

In just three years, a majority of workers -- 51 percent -- will be in plans subject to new federal requirements, according to midrange projections in the draft.

Plans that predate the health-care law are exempt from many, but not all, of its consumer protections. Types of changes could include offering preventive care without co-payments and instituting an appeals process for disputed claims that follows new federal guidelines. The law already requires all health plans to extend coverage to young-adult children until they turn 26.

Internal administration documents reveal that up to 51% of employers may have to relinquish their current health care coverage because of ObamaCare. Small firms will be even likelier to lose existing plans. The "midrange estimate is that 66% of small employer plans and 45% of large employer plans will relinquish their grandfathered status by the end of 2013," according to the document. In the worst-case scenario, 69% of employers — 80% of smaller firms — would lose

If Chuck Lacasse had gotten his pink slip four days earlier, Uncle Sam would have covered most of his family's health insurance while he looked for a new job.

But Congress allowed emergency health care assistance for unemployed workers to expire May 31, and seems unwilling to renew it despite pleas from President Barack Obama.

Obama Begins "Lifestyle Health Modification" Program, Mandating Behavioural Changes in US Society

Last week, with little fanfare, among the ever deteriorating oil spill crisis, the White House quietly noted the issuance of an executive order "Establishing the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council", in which the president, citing the “authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America” is now actively engaging in "lifestyle behavior modification" for American citizens that do not exhibit "healthy behavior." At least initially, the 8 main verticals of focus will include: smoking cessation; proper nutrition; appropriate exercise

A Mom Asks: Should We Care What's Wrong with Obama?

Robin of Berkeley has provided a great summary of psychological speculation to answer a question now in the minds of some Americans: "What's wrong with Obama?"

I suppose a few among us are still asking this question, as though the answer will undo a whit of the damage done. As a full-time mom, with 36 years of experience under my belt and a couple of model American adults now on my resume, I've stopped asking that question, however. In fact, from a mom's point of view, I'm much more prone, at this point, to be asking, "Should we care what's wrong with Obama?"

ObamaCare Tax Credit Myth

Being somewhat of a libertarian, I wasn’t a supporter of ObamaCare. However, a few months after passage, a postcard arrived which led me to believe there may be a benefit coming to my small firm. The mailing from the Treasury Department touted a generous 35% tax credit to firms with less than 25 full-time employees averaging less than $50K per year in wages — that’s us! In fact, we’re right in the sweet spot with 17 full-time employees earning approximately $42,000 per year.

The Constitution vs. Health Care Reform

One of the few "funny" stories to come out of the sweeping health care legislation to go through Congress was that the majority who wanted reform -- but did not want it applied to them -- woke up finding themselves subject to those laws. They, too, will eventually find themselves burdened by the same burden of taxes, regulation, and rationed care that the rest of us will suffer. This was not the only thing they failed to notice, but also the fact that this bill is an easy target for attack in the courts.

ObamaCare: Unions Get Better Grandfathers

IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 6/14/2010 | David Hogberg and Sean Higgins

ObamaCare appears to have one grandfathered standard for labor unions and another standard for everyone else. Unions that had a health plan under a collective bargaining agreement by March 23, 2010, can switch insurers as long as the collective bargaining deal is in effect and not forfeit the grandfathered exemptions from many ObamaCare provisions. But anyone else — large business, small business, individual — who switches carriers loses their grandfathered status. IBD reported in Monday’s issue that the administration estimates that most employers’ health plans would lose

Under new rules, your employer can't change insurers without losing your health plan's exemptions from ObamaCare regulations.

That is, unless a union negotiated your coverage. The administration has granted a special exception to those — and apparently only those — health care plans.

A health plan is deemed "grandfathered" if it was purchased before March 23, 2010, and no major changes are made later. Such plans are exempt from most ObamaCare requirements.

It is not too late for America to correct its course and stop the march toward a government run, "single payer" healthcare system.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration on Monday announced new rules it said would protect Americans who want to keep their current health insurance but critics say the changes could end up causing millions to lose their coverage.

Part of President Barack Obama's healthcare overhaul, the new regulations are meant to discourage companies from making major changes in health insurance benefits.
