WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Executives from other major oil companies turned on BP Plc and defended their own drilling practices during a U.S. congressional hearing on Tuesday as they sought to stave off new government regulations in the wake of BP's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Summoned before the U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee on energy and environment, executives of the biggest oil companies moved to isolate BP while asserting that the accident could have been prevented.

Exxon Mobil Chairman Rex Tillerson told the panel it is crucial to find out what caused the offshore rig to explode in April, creating the biggest oil spill in U.S. history.

They still don't know and never will....And my gut still says sabotage.

Just remember....2 weeks before the explosion, Obama said "Let's drill".

They are all testifying right now that Obama’s moratorium on drilling in the gulf will force them to pick up all platforms and move. Obama wants this to happen so he can destroy our country and economy.

Yeah, I would imagine that Exxon is going to "hammer" BP -- considering that BP is careless to the point of being a "criminal organization" -- compared to Exxon ...

Circular firing squad. Those company CEOs would do well to remember Benjamin Franklin's words at the signing of the Declaration of Independence, "We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately."

...And my gut still says sabotage.

Why don't you outline how that was accomplished. Ought to be good for a laugh which we all need.

Oh that’s why nothing is being reported about the Chevron leak, into the waterways and rivers of Salt Lake City, eh?

Big Oil clearly see where all this is going and is scrambling for the illusion of individual safety. Waxman thinks otherwise. Marxism here we are.

Well, if you want to go full-tinfoil hat, there was a coalmine explosion, the BP well blowout, and a Natural Gas well explosion in PA, all within the past three months.

Are we talking Apples and Oranges. The OSHA Fines for BP were related to drilling rigs?

A lady called in Neal Boortz’ show yesterday and stated that Republicans blew up the well in order to make Obama look bad. I kid you not.

My gut says sabotage and the talk of these hearings screams Stalinist show trial.

Actually BP has been in the Dems's pocket (or vice versa) and has been entrenched in green garbage as well.

The US needs to come back to US companies again. I wouldn't mind it if BP's stock fell if it meant that US companies could be favored again.

A year ago I would be right with you but now, I'm not so sure you need the tinfoil hat. The coincidences are beginning to mount.

...Republicans blew up the well in order to make Obama look bad.

Now that makes sense. I'll have to reconsider my opinion about sabotage.

If the oil people had any guts they would stay together, tell the government to get lost, and if they didn’t like that answer, tell them to take a long walk off a short pier. You are the cause of this mess and should get your own act together before blaming others.

Hmmmm....Anyone check the Muslim Handbook lately to see if they use explosives???

I think we've checked a few bridges for explosives.

And we know rigs are potential targets.

How many guys named "Mohammad" had access to the rig or pre-deployment rig components?

If the answer is zero, then it was an accident.

If the answer is more than zero, it was a man-caused disaster by the pResident's fellow travelers.
