I thought they had ultrasonic flow sensors that could read in the pipe.

There are but in this case I am not sure, nor have I read, that they could be properly used since the tool line may or may not be still in the casing. If the casing is cracked down line somewhere reading qwhat is coming out of the BOP will not do much good.
