I once was involved in a rescue effort of a boater who was stranded at sea. Somehow it never occurred to me to ask him to pay for the gas my boat used to save him. Did you have to charter a Qantas Airbus to find him then divert 3 ships to sail for 2 days to get to him?

Did you have to charter a Qantas Airbus to find him then divert 3 ships to sail for 2 days to get to him? No, but the principle is the same. I spent my time and my money to rescue someone. Never occurred to me to ask for recompense.
