Thousands of babies with HIV/AIDS face the risk of death due to a pharmaceutical plant closing during a rise in demand for medication.
Bristol-Myers Squibb is shutting down a plant in France this month, the only one that produces a pediatric HIV/AIDS medication approved by the World Health Organization.
The closing creates a medicine shortage that could threaten the lives of 4,000-7,000 babies living in developing countries according to UNITAID.
A Health Care Horror Story From Canada

There are howls of outrage coming from the liberal community in Alberta, Canada. It seems that some doctors, desperate to protect their patients from the overcrowded and failing socialized medical system in their country, have set up private clinics to treat them. To circumvent Canadian laws, which prohibit charging for medical care, they have set up private, membership clinics where, for $2,000 a year, patients can access well staffed and equipped clinics and avoid the long waits and compromised care of the public system.
The leading Canadian newspaper, the Globe and Mail, reports that "critics say that the clinics are taking physicians away from the public system making it even harder
to find a family doctor." David Eggen, executive director of a group that supports the Canadian socialized system, Friends of Medicare, said that it's already hard to find a family physician in Canada and that clinics like these, springing up in several Canadian cities, could make it even harder.

WASHINGTON, D.C.-The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are now beginning to mail checks to seniors who have spent more than $2,830 on prescription medication this year. Seniors who fell into the Medicare Part D donut hole may receive a non-taxable rebate of up to $250. Checks will continue to be mailed monthly over the next several months to seniors as they enter the coverage gap.
The checks are just the first benefit for our seniors from the health reform legislation we passed in March, said Rep. Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (D-MP). Beginning in January 2011, seniors in the Medicare Prescription Drug program, who fall into the so-called 'donut hole' will receive a 50-percent discount on brand name drugs. By 2020, the donut hole will be completely closed.

WEST PALM BEACH Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Maurice Ferre says the U.S. spends an "absurd" amount on end-of-life care and should gradually move to a universal health system in which the government controls costs by setting prices for medical procedures and capping expenditures based on age and medical condition.
Speaking to The Palm Beach Post editorial board today, Ferre said he would have voted for the health care overhaul approved by Congress and signed by President Obama this year as "a step in the right direction." He later said the "Medicare-for-everyone" system he favors should be phased in over about 25 years.

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers told members of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce that a controversial lawsuit challenging part of federal health care reform was brought forth to ensure their constitutional rights.
What Im trying to do is protect the individual citizens of Colorado from pervasive coercion by the federal government because what theyve set up is constitutionally infirm, the Republican told about 30 chamber business leaders at a June 1 candidate forum in Centennial.

Youve probably never heard of Don Holley. But you should know his name and you should know how his family said he died: in a San Franciso hospital at the hands of medical staff using a procedure called, Comfort Care.
More and more people are finding that the hospitals they have gone to for help are becoming the places that permanently put them or their loved ones out of their misery. In Don Holleys case, the hospital he went to for healing morphed into a medical version of the nightmarish Hotel California after it was too late for him to leave.
Obamacare: Eliminating the Poor and Elderlys Last Resort to Life and Health

Many left-wingers complain that our healthcare system as it stands leaves out the poor, elderly, and those least able to care for themselves. They say that because of this inequity private medical care should be eliminated and government should take over that role in society. That way, they claim, all will be treated equally and everyone will get the same sort of care. Unfortunately for this left-winger's utopian fantasy, once government becomes the only doctor in town, the very poor, elderly and indigent about whom the left claims to care so much will end up forsaken by the very system envisioned to save their lives.

LONDON Britain's health watchdog on Thursday recommended against buying a breast cancer drug for patients with advanced disease.
In a statement, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence said that lapatinib, sold as Tyverb by GlaxoSmithKline PLC, is not cost-effective. The drug costs about 1,600 pounds ($2,300) per treatment course in Britain. Glaxo said the decision would mean about 2,000 patients in the U.K. will no longer get the drug.
I’ve been having foot problems for 3 months, after a trip to the foot doctor, a fracture or stress fracture were ruled out, further test showed the fatty padding in my feet are atrophying and I now have neuropathy in both legs and feet. Got sent to therapy for 6 weeks, and custom othotics ordered for my shoes.
Medicare will pay for the therapy. BUT WILL NOT PAY for the othotics UNLESS you are a diabetic. Discrimination and rationed health care all in one package and obamacare hasn’t even begun.
