Yearbook remark puts Sheehan in a bind

WALLINGFORD — A comment about a former student at Mark T. Sheehan High School, described by sources at the school as “a situation straight out of the movie ‘Mean Girls,’” has forced school officials to make an alteration to this year’s yearbooks and try to recall some of them.

Many of the several hundred yearbooks ordered haven’t been handed out yet. But school officials are requesting that students who already have the yearbooks return them so a special sticker can be applied to cover the offending comment.

“They can try to pull the sticker off if they want, but it will ruin the whole page,” said Salvatore Menzo, superintendent of schools.

Menzo declined to describe the comment, other than to say it was directed at a single individual and “was very inappropriate, very hurtful.” He said the comment was not a racial slur or anti-Semitic.

But several sources have told the New Haven Register that the comment referred to a girl who left the school district and the circumstances under which she left.
