I'm torn on this.
On the one hand, I do believe the public schools have generally gotten way too PC.
On the other hand, how would you feel if you were a freshman in this school, opened the year book and saw a comment that said, "I remember Genoa. He was that fat, stinky guy with the pizza face. Man, what a slob. Everyone hated him."
Without knowing what the comment actually was, I'm hard pressed to say whether the school is doing the right thing or not.
Ping to the dude that was intentionally left out of the yearbook.
THE COMMENT!!!
“REMEMBER WHEN (GIRL) GOT HOMESCHOOLED?”
Thank you. Can’t believe that’s it. I’m sure it’s caused way more embarrassment for the young lady thanks to all the press than the comment by itself could ever have achieved. I’d think those “mean girls” who wrote the quote are thrilled at all this attention.
My biggest problem with it is that it enables, as do so many situations these days, the whole idea that any angst you feel as a teenager is the end all and be all of your existence.
This teen’s parents should have used this an opportunity to explain to her that when she becomes an adult, this incident will be but a tiny blip on the radar screen of life and it’s not worth her time to waste any worry on it. Instead they’re teaching her to blow everything up to its biggest proportions, when they should be helping her to put it behind her.
Year book: another name for a book full of mug shots before being convicted of any crime! LOL!
You beat me to it. :)
Oh yeah! Now that you mention it, I DO seem to remember that “right to not be offended” line in the US Constitution. I think it comes just after that “right to keep and bear arms as long as you are IMPORTANT”...you know, like a democrat mayor!
Appropriate to whom? You can't edit someone else's memories. And if you think you can or that you have a right to try you're worse than a fool, you're a Nazi. The seniors who paid for and received the unedited yearbooks should tell the petty fascists who want them returned to perform an act that is both unnatural and (for all but the very gifted) physically impossible.
“...It didn’t come back from the cleaners! There was an earthquake! ...”
But Superintendent Dr. Menzo says the school wants to err on the side of caution.
Dr. Menzo stated, quote, “These are memories that they’re going to have for the rest of their lives, and we want to make sure they’re appropriate.”
Let’s see...most graduates will share the memory of attending a school run by a South Park character. How sweet is that!!!
They want to change it to the kid’s real name: Moe Foe.
“...I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN’T MY FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD.”
‘Joliet’ Jake Blues, The Blues Brothers Movie 1980. Man, I work with people that weren’t born when that came out. Thanks.
PC is poison.
Every voter in Wallingford is a registered Democrat, right?
Picking at a sore doesn’t bring healing.
LMAO!
