AP Impact: US-Mexico border isn't so dangerous

MEXICO CITY – It's one of the safest parts of America, and it's getting safer.

It's the U.S.-Mexico border, and even as politicians say more federal troops are needed to fight rising violence, government data obtained by The Associated Press show it actually isn't so dangerous after all.

The top four big cities in America with the lowest rates of violent crime are all in border states: San Diego, Phoenix, El Paso and Austin, according to a new FBI report. And an in-house Customs and Border Protection report shows that Border Patrol agents face far less danger than street cops in most U.S. cities.

The Customs and Border Protection study, obtained with a Freedom of Information Act request, shows 3 percent of Border Patrol agents and officers were assaulted last year, mostly when assailants threw rocks at them. That compares with 11 percent of police officers and sheriff's deputies assaulted during the same period, usually with guns or knives.

..Border Patrol agents face far less danger than street cops..

That's because there are no border agents and the illegals have already infiltrated the cities.

LOL...comparing assaults on Border Patrols with those on cops.

Illegals are limited by what they can haul thru the long stretch of entry. So they should weigh down their backpacks further with guns/ knives, ammo etc vs. food, bottled water and maybe a change of underwear?

Apples and oranges, and like the post above, pure propaganda.

My roommate (legal)insists that I stay put instead of going to Mexico with him to get his paperwork renewed. His company pays for the trip and they advise me not to go. When a major corporation and a Mexican tells you it ain’t safe...it ain’t safe.

This propaganda is from Mexico City.
I’d like to see what the folks from Phoenix have to say. I have a feeling it’s a whole lot of a different story.

Besides, there aren’t any police patroling the border, so how can they compare to urban streets? By comparing apples and aardvarks, they can produce what looks like there isn’t any problem at all.
