An Immigrant Defends Arizona's New Law
Human Events ^ | may 9, 2010 | Ian de Silva

Posted on 05/09/2010 10:17:34 AM PDT by AuntB

In the hue and cry over Arizona’s tough new immigration law, there is a noticeable paucity of voices from people who are the exact opposite of illegal aliens. That is, legal immigrants—people who respected America’s laws in coming here. Therefore, as a legal immigrant and naturalized American, I must point out the fallacies promoted by opponents of the law.

Predictably, liberals charge that this law is racist and that it legalizes profiling. Yet the law says nothing of the sort. In fact, it clearly specifies that a law enforcement official “may not consider race, color or national origin.”

In today’s political discourse, you are not deemed qualified to speak about issues such as profiling unless you are a racial minority. Therefore, as much as it violates my conservative instinct for a colorblind argument, I reluctantly mention that I happen to be a brown-skinned immigrant with an accent. In other words, if profiling was a phenomenon that is as rabidly rampant in America as liberals allege, then I would be among those who are routinely profiled and regularly questioned by police.

I have lived in America for nearly 30 years and have driven in at least 25 states—and have never had a cop stop me for a frivolous reason. The few times that I have been stopped, I was at fault—mostly for (unwittingly) exceeding the speed limit.

Some years ago, I was questioned by a state trooper in Arizona. I was visiting Arizona and was on my way to Canyon de Chelly (a scenic canyon with none of the maddening crowds of the Grand Canyon). I had stopped on the side of the road to check the map, when the lights flashed behind me. I explained to the officer that I stopped to check my route. That was it. He didn’t even ask me for my license, which I would have gladly presented. I am sure the officer saw nothing in my demeanor that aroused any suspicions. I was polite to him but not afraid of him. I had no reason to be afraid—I knew I was a legal immigrant and there was nothing to fear. If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about.

On the other hand, if you are an illegal alien, then you should be worried when a cop stops you, because you do have something to hide—your illegal presence in this country. Illegal aliens are worried now precisely because they know that Arizona’s law will reveal them. In order to misdirect the public, illegal aliens and their ethnic supporters have concocted the specter of racial profiling.

Illegal aliens and their supporters are trying to defend the indefensible, distracting attention from the basic issue at hand—which is that illegal aliens have no right to be here in the first place.

For over two centuries, millions of poor immigrants came here—and they came legally. I was also poor when I came here—and I came legally. I have no sympathy whatsoever for illegal aliens. Poverty is not an excuse to break the law. If we start excusing illegal aliens because of poverty, then we might as well excuse burglars, since most burglars, after all, are also poor.

To tolerate illegal aliens is to tolerate the same corruption of law that is endemic in many Latin American countries. The reason Mexico is so corrupt is that neither the people nor the police have respect for the law.

It does not help that today’s so-called civil rights leaders are opportunistic charlatans. The iconic civil rights movement of the 1960s has today devolved into a charade run by race-mongering rabble-rousers. Never mind that America has come so far that we now have a black president—but no, these rabble-rousers still think America is a place where every nonwhite is racially profiled everywhere he goes.

Although the Arizona immigration law clears forbids racial profiling, common sense tells us that—given the invasion of Arizona by illegal aliens and the total incompetence of our federal government at border control—profiling is a justifiable tool in Arizona. Arizona’s illegal alien problem is not caused by blue-eyed blond-haired whites from Scandinavia. So, to pretend that there are as many Scandinavian illegal aliens in Arizona as are Mexican illegal aliens is preposterous.

In support of the new law, I have decided I will visit Arizona again—to do my part as a tourist to help the state’s economy. (That is my response to the rabble-rousers who want a boycott of Arizona.) And this time, in addition to my license, I will also take my American passport. I will be glad to prove my American citizenship to a law enforcement officer if asked.

Also, an interesting article by a Mexican doctor in support of Arizona/USA law, forwarded to us by our NAFBPO friends.

El Diario (Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua) 5/4/10

“Rejected once again” A full op/col by Alicia Vasquez, M.D., regarding Mexico’s now historic migrant problem: laying the blame where it belongs.

Enactment of law SB1070 in the State of Arizona has caused a great polemic, as much inside the United States as outside the country. It is labeled as a law that promotes discrimination, mainly about Mexicans, who are in that state without documents; it defines presence without documents as a crime, and allows police to detain the suspects. Americans themselves have expressed their disapproval, the fellow countrymen who reside in that state fear going out on the street for fear of being detained; in Mexico there is major indignation, there’s talk of a commercial boycott of the state, and bulletins are issued to keep Mexicans from visiting the state.

The number of “wets,” “illegals,” or however they may be called, began to cross the border toward the United States at the end of the sixties, after the end of the Bracero program, which started from 1942 until 1964. After the war, (the time) when the need for manpower was imperative and Mexicans became an important labor force for the U.S., they helped raise and improve the economy of the neighbor country, to be later deported toward the end of 1964; from there on, thousands of fellow countrymen cross the border illegally in search of opportunities, a phenomenon which decreased when the maquiladora industry [read: assembly plants] arrived in the country’s border, and they were able to find a reliable job and benefits.

But when the phenomenon of the maquiladoras deteriorated, entire towns faced misery. Without means of income for their families, migration increased to such an extent that individual monetary remittances sent by illegal employees, in dollars, are a significant income for the national economy.

That’s how we tolerate that at the same time, and on a par with drug traffic, the “coyotes” or “polleros” [read: people smugglers] proliferated, generating two of the most profitable businesses for crime, at the expense of the need of those who have to leave their country in search of what they cannot find within it, despite being victims of mistreatment, humiliations and putting life at risk.

Suddenly, the United States found itself with 12 million illegal immigrants, and in Arizona around five hundred thousand, who according to the new law will be treated as criminals.

It’s painful to repeatedly ascertain the suffering of our fellow countrymen who daily cross after the “American dream.” The insults and recriminations have not been long in coming from we Mexicans, and especially border area residents, against the Americans; without stopping to think that the main responsible party for that displacement of illegals to the United States is our own Mexican government, due to the lack of opportunities and misery in which they live, which pushes them above all to cross the border.

What has Mexico done to hold on to its fellow residents and to avoid having them cross illegally into the United States? If the maquiladora phenomenon lessened migration somewhat, why not use that example and create employment? Why not improve agricultural productivity? Why not offer equality of opportunity? There have been Mexicans mistreated in their own country, that’s why they emigrate, and once there, they don’t want to return, because they know the conditions in the country are not going to be different than when they left and they will return to misery.

We must accept that each country is sovereign and independent, and that the United States has the power to enact laws which may be favorable to them. Illegal immigrants, workers or not, are outside the law of that country, they crossed under the shadows and have stayed within them. We mustn’t be demanding better treatment for our fellow countrymen from the Americans, it’s here at home where we must give them a proper life so that they may not find themselves in need of leaving their land, their customs and roots.

In December 2008, the U.S. Justice Department said that Mexican gangs are the "biggest organized crime threat to the United States."

In 2009, Phoenix had 316 kidnapping cases, turning the city into our nation's kidnapping capital. Almost all of the persons kidnapped were illegal immigrants or linked to the drug trade.

Just some of the illegal alien criminal news today:

Man arrested for aggravated assault at McDonald’s

Updated: 05.08.10
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested Arturo Hernandez Lara, 20, around 11 a.m. Friday at the McDonald’s restaurant at 3275 Texas 242 and charged him with aggravated assault, violation of a protective order, possession of a stolen pistol and fraudulent use of identifying information.

Deputies learned Lara allegedly came to the McDonald’s, confronted and threatened his brother-in-law in the parking lot by holding a gun to the brother-in-law’s head. The MCSO reported Lara put the pistol into his waistband and then went into the restaurant to place a food order.

The victim waited outside for deputies to arrive.

Deputy Andy Nedrow arrested Lara inside the busy McDonald’s without incident. Deputies found that there was a protective order issued against Lara in November 2009, preventing him from threatening or coming near his girlfriend. Lara’s girlfriend was working at the serving line at the time of the incident. No one was injured. Lara’s girlfriend and brother-in-law are both employed at McDonald’s.

The gun taken from Lara was a stolen handgun that was taken in a burglary in The Woodlands March 29. Lara allegedly had in his possession a fraudulent Social Security card with a number to a resident in Detroit, Mich. Lara’s brother-in-law did not know a reason for the threat.

________
Illegal alien/sex offender arrested locally

According to a report on SignonSanDiego, a registered sex-offender who was in the country illegally was arrested on Wednesday in Escondido.

According to the report, on January 30th of this year, the man had been seen masturbating in front of women at a local department store.

Javier Esteban Guadarrama, whose country of origin was not made known - though we can likely assume it wasn’t Ireland, or Canada - fled the scene after an officer who was present at the scene got into a scuffle with him.

Guadarrama had been recognized by the officer from previous incidents and had previously been deported.

But, let’s remember, we can’t enforce our “immigration laws” because it’s “racist” and would be an unfair method of “racial-profiling”. Right?

Two Arrested for Transporting Illegal Immigrants

LAREDO, Tx.- Two San Antonio men were arrested by Border Patrol agents for transporting 16 undocumented immigrants in two vehicles.

According to reports, the 2 men, a father and son, were detected by Sheriff Department officials 2.5 miles northeast of Hebbronville.

Authorities pulled over a 2002 Chevrolet pick up, driven by a youngster that transported 11 undocumented people in the cabin and back of the truck.

A 1995 Ford Explorer was also intercepted that was driven by the youngsters father, where five other illegal immigrants were hidden. In the Explorer a .380 caliber pistol was also found.

One of the illegal immigrants was from Peru, and 15 from Mexico. The immigrants told authorities they made arrangements in the Reynosa area to be transported to Oklahoma.

Other immigrants stated they were headed to Dallas, Texas for a payment of 2,000 and 2,500 dollars.

________

SAN CLEMENTE —— Agents arrested 23 people, including 22 suspected illegal immigrants, Tuesday morning during a checkpoint inspection, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The illegal immigrants were in a van heading north on Interstate 5 at about 7:30 a.m. when it was stopped at the San Clemente checkpoint, said Agent Michael Jimenez. The van was sent to secondary inspection where agents questioned the 23 people inside.

The 32-year-old driver, a Mexican citizen, had valid a border crossing card, Jimenez said.

During their investigation, agents found that five of the men in the group had extensive criminal histories and one of them had a two felony warrants. Agents also learned that the group had arrived by boat Tuesday morning and came ashore near Camp Pendleton, he said.

Two of the undocumented immigrants —— a 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old, pregnant girl —— were turned over to the Mexican Consulate, Jimenez said. The driver of the van and a 42-year-old passenger were the suspected smugglers, the agent said.[snip]

Why the Tea Party Movement Must Oppose Illegal Immigration and Amnesty
Written by Ronald W. Mortensen
Tuesday, 04 May 2010 17:56

While I was working on legislation designed to address the problems associated with illegal alien driven, child identity theft in Utah, a supporter of the “Tea Party” movement asked me why I was so concerned about illegal immigration. “After all, aren’t illegal immigrants just good, hard working people who are trying to make a better life for themselves and their families,” he asked.

I responded that illegal immigration is a direct to threat to constitutionally limited government, the rule of law, free markets, private property, individual freedom, and fiscal responsibility.

It is important to understand that illegal aliens are primarily social and economic migrants who leave their countries in order to improve their social and economic status rather than in the search of individual freedom and liberty. As such, their allegiance remains with their countries of origin.

For the most part, illegal aliens come from cultures where power rests with the government rather than with the people, where citizens look to government for a wide range of services rather than being self reliant and where the rule-of-law is weak and corruption is a way of life.

I pointed out that the average illegal alien quickly learns that the rule-of-law doesn’t apply to him in the United States. After all, the first act that he takes when coming to the United States is either to sneak across the border or to get a visa by lying to a United States consular officer about his intention to return to his home country.

Then after violating American immigration law, the illegal alien immediately graduates to felony document fraud, felony perjury on I-9 forms, and felony identity theft in order to get jobs with “reputable” employers. This is justifiable in his eyes because that is the way things are done in his country.

Once in the United States, the illegal alien demands special privileges. He speaks his language and expects America to adapt to him. He retains his culture and flag. He expects Americans to give documents issued by hisgovernment , such as consular identification cards, the same status as documents issued by the United States. He sends much of his earnings back to his home country. He demands the right to drive without a license and he takes advantage of a wide range of taxpayer provided benefits for both himself and his family.

The illegal alien is often poorly educated. He works at low-paying jobs, lives with other illegal aliens in overcrowded apartments and houses. He frequently participates in gang activities when not at work. He knows little about American culture, traditions, or the Constitution.

The illegal alien distrusts the police and finds nothing shocking about the federal government owning automobile companies, bailing out banks, or providing health care. After all, that is the way things are in his home country.

True individual freedom and personal responsibility may be alien concepts to him and he likely does not understand that individual rights come from God and not fromgovernment.

The illegal alien is welcomed and supported by progressives, liberals, and social justice advocates. They teach him that he is a victim and that he has rights; however, they do not teach him constitutional principles or to cherish individual freedom, the rule of law, and personal responsibility.

The left encourages him to take advantage of a wide range of government “entitlements” for both himself and his children and joins in an unholy alliance with businesses to encourage him to commit multiple, job-related felonies while justifying his actions on the grounds of compassion and the unfairness of American immigration laws.

The supporters of illegal immigration justify the fact that illegal aliens routinely use the identities of American children to get jobs because it is being done for the greater good or because they need the workers. They ignore the estimated 1.1. million Arizona kids who have their Social Security numbers stolen and used by illegal aliens and they turn a blind eye to the fact that 75 percent of all illegal aliens have fraudulent Social Security numbers.

Illegal aliens, progressives, liberals, social justice organizations, and Chambers of Commerce write off the damage done to millions of American men, women, and children as unavoidable collateral damage that is necessary for underprivilegedillegal aliens to achieve the American dream and for businesses to have a source of low-cost labor.

The fact that American citizens suffer very real and very serious consequences including having their credit ruined, having arrest records wrongfully attached to their names, being saddled with income tax liabilities for income earned by illegal aliens under their Social Security numbers, being denied government benefits, and having their medical records compromised with potentially life-threatening consequences is unfortunate but unavoidable.

It should not come as a surprise that those on the left show unwavering support for millions of illegal aliens who have no allegiance to the United States. After all, illegal aliens are malleable and highly vulnerable. The left can, therefore, readily gain their loyalty by telling them that they are victims of racism, of racial profiling, of American imperialism, and of an unfair capitalistic system.

The progressives, liberals, social justice advocates, and even the U.S. Chamber of Commerce support people unlawfully in the United States. They provide them with taxpayer-funded benefits and they promise illegal aliens a path to citizenship.

For those who are working to fundamentally change America’s free market system and restrict individual liberty, illegal aliens provide another means of increasing the culture of dependency that allows the left to expand its power.

Legalizing millions of illegal aliens and allowing them to bring in as many as 103 million family members over 20 years would fundamentally transform the United States socially, economically, and politically, according to Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation, and greatly expand entitlement spending.

Perhaps most importantly for the left, illegal aliens and their family members have no allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and little understanding of the importance of limitedgovernment. Legalizing millions of illegal aliens is likely to provide added support for the concept of a “living Constitution” and for a greatly expanded role for government.

Taken together, all of these things make it possible for the progressives, liberals, and social justice advocates to achieve their overriding goals of radically changing the Constitution, creating a culture of dependency, vastly expanding federal power, further weakening the rule of law, diminishing individual freedom, and destroying the free market economy.

The left and the other advocates for illegal aliens try to hide what they are doing by labeling the Tea Parties and others who disagree with them as racists, nativists, restrictionists, xenophobes, and as hate groups.

Those on the left talk about compassion and yet they show no compassion for the millions of people who obey our laws and wait years to legally enter the United States or who die while waiting for their turn.

They talk about justice yet they deny justice to millions of Americans who are the victims of illegal-alien job-related identity theft by ignoring these crimes and extending amnesty to those committing job-related felonies as long as they are in the United States illegally.

They talk about racism while supporting an effectively racist illegal immigrant policy that favors one ethnic group over all other races, religions, and ethnicities.

They talk about helping the poor, while turning their backs on the poorest and most desperate people in the world.

And then they put forth a “comprehensive immigration reform” plan that rewards illegal aliens with a path to citizenship. Under the left’s plan, anyone illegally in the United States would pay an insignificant $500 fine, pay a year or two of back taxes, be required to learn English, and be given total amnesty from job-relatedidentity theft.

The left portrays their amnesty plan as compassionate and just; however, it is neither.

It would leave the millions of American citizens who are victims of illegal-alien identity theft to recover their good names and their lives without any help from the government that is supposed to protect and defend them.

It would let illegal aliens who jumped the immigration line remain in the United States while more deserving people who played by the rules are forced to wait even longer to immigrate legally.

This is neither compassionate nor just. Rather it is purely about the left obtaining the power necessary to fundamentally remake America in its image.

If the Tea Party and like-minded movements really hope to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, to limit governmental power, and to protect personal and economic freedom, it is imperative that they become fully engaged in the debate over illegal immigration.

Failure to act will result in literally millions of people with no allegiance to Constitution and to the values and principles that have made America great being put on a path to citizenship. This will lead to a huge expansion of government at all levels, the redistribution of income from those who work to those who take, the further erosion of the free market, the creation of a bilingual nation, and the destruction of the rule of law that is so crucial for individual freedom.

This is serious business and that is why the Tea Party movement and all like-minded organizations must actively and vigorously oppose illegal immigration and any attempt to grant citizenship to millions of illegal aliens and a hundred million of their family members.

Drinking with an Arizona Girl

A Mexican, an Arab,

and an Arizona girl are

in the same bar.

When the Mexican

finishes his beer,

he throws his glass

in the air, pulls out

his pistol, and shoots

the glass to pieces.

He says, ‘In Mexico ,

our glasses are so

cheap we don’t need

to drink with the same one twice.’

The Arab, obviously

impressed by this,

drinks non-alcohol beer

(cuz he’s a muslim!),

throws it into the

air, pulls out his

AK-47, and shoots

the glass to pieces.

He says, ‘In the

Arab World, we have

so much sand to make

glasses that we don’t

need to drink with

the same one twice either.’

The Arizona girl,

cool as a cucumber,

picks up her beer,

downs it in one gulp,

throws the glass into

the air, whips out her

45, and shoots the

Mexican and the Arab.

Catching her glass,

setting it on the bar, and calling for a refill,

she says,

‘In Arizona ,

we have so many

illegal aliens that

we don’t have to

drink with the same ones twice.’

God Bless Arizona

Great post. The information about ID theft and Social Security number theft is very serious; many innocent people can be hurt from this.

I’d mentioned a certain insurance company which has a branch at 5353 Claremont Avenue in Oakland, California right across from a California Department of Motor Vehicles office. This insurance office has a large Mexican flag prominently displayed in its window and a sign apparently stating that it is possible to get car insurance without a license.

The feds could protect the border if they wanted to, apocalypto. We just have to get the true information of this situation out to the voting public, along with who the politicians are they can count on. Easier said than done, I know.

White flag? I don’t recognize that one any more than I do the Mexican flag, unless it’s being waved on the other side of the border. But, yes, Holder et al surrendered this country a long time ago.

Yup. Let’s see: we have a mostly-unarmed invasion/infiltration of Spanish-speaking illegal aliens from Mexico (which borders TX, NM, AZ,CA.)into the US, most of whom said invading infiltrators are Mexican nationals. look like Mexican nationals, and who speak only Spanish. What kind of an idiot would not profile. Oh, wait, the same Federal Govt TSA idiots who frisk elderly Swedish Grandmas at airports.
