My uncle's family has lived in the Orlando–Kissimmee area since the 80s. Not sure if that RAT Grayson in their Congressman, since it varies from suburb to suburb. They're staunch Republicans. Florida became a lot more Republican in the 80s and 90s than it had been in the past.

I've promised the southern freepers who claim "yankee transplants" are the root of all evil that I will talk my Florida relatives into moving back to Illinois if they can convince Bobby Rush, Jesse Jackson, Danny Davis, and the rest of loudmouth race-baiting southern transplants in Illinois to move back home. (oh, and Hawaii can have Obama back too, or better yet, Indonesia)

;-)

Daniel Webster is the epitome of a polished professional Republican politician. His Johnny Come Lately act is a bit incredulous after he told all he was not running. We need more people in Congress like Dan Fanelli, and Alan West, and Marco Rubio. The Republican establishment is going to have to decide now whether it wants to take the Tea Party seriously and renew itself, or simply keep on going down the path towards oblivion.

I’ve known Webster for 35 years — before he ever entered politics. You can’t do better for Orlando.

I've known Dan for quite awhile too. Absolute stand-up guy and conservative. Used to play softball on a church team against him. fantastic news!

Dan Webster’ entering into the race now after stating he would not run is interesting. His receiving an immediate endorsement from Mike Huckabee and Jeb Bush sure does point to the fact that Webster is very popular with the RNC elite. Although he has been popular through his 30 years in political office here in Florida, I believe we need new blood in our US Congress.

Right on! Jumping into the race this late, with our primary coming August 24th makes me wonder why after 30 years in political office Webster isn't thinking about retirement instead. I do understand the immediate endorsement from Mike Huckabee, as Webster endorsed Mike Huckabee for President in 08. The immediate endorsement from Jeb Bush is understandable as Webster served in the FL Senate. Wonder if Jeb will endorse Marco Rubio?

There are a few “Republican oldies” who are OK but it IS TIME for NEW blood and more Republicans who are true Constitutional Conservatives like Dan Fanelli and Allen West!

Former State Senator Dan Webster said Washington was TOO PARTISAN. Does he mean that Republicans need to reach across the isle MORE?
I do not want ANY REPUBLICAN to “reach across the isle” to the Socialist/Progressive DEMS!

A primary is not necessarily a bad thing per se...it will enable both men to define themselves, state their conservative principals, let the electorate judge,a nd also, sharpen their skills and get the winner ready for what will no doubt be a brutal general election campaign. There's a certain Darwinian winnowing here...the candidate must be able to effectively communicate and project his ideas and vision.

Ordinarily a primary between two "good guys," (unless there is a weak Dem opponent) is a drain on funds, but given who the opponent is, I don't think the GOP will have any trouble raising $$$ for this race..

There are some good reasons to get into elective office races late in the game.

Hi Ken,

Yes the Primary season is the time for folks to research and vet the candidates and make their choice. I hope the voters in District 8 do that and make their decision carefully on whom to support.

“There are some good reasons to get into elective office races late in the game.”

I am sure there are but I wonder how late is too late? It does make we wonder when someone says they are not going to run and then enters a race with two immediate endorsements.

Don't get me wrong, I will certainly support the winner of the Republican primary in EVERY Florida district. I just want the best Constitutional Conservative to win each Republican Primary! :)

I’m in Webster’s (Grayson’s) district 8. Mostly Orange county. I’ve heard Finelli on the radio at least once and he sounds like the kind of guy I’d support. I will tell you Daniel Webster is a guy that has been in the area his whole life. He homeschooled his kids and they are all the type of kids any parent would be proud of, from what I hear.

Orange County is now heavily democrat and largely minority inhabited. For years and years Dan went to church in the area where the congragation is very diverse and I’m sure he still does. He is very popular with many many people who more than likely voted for Grayson in ‘08 and he is very popular. He is a little soft spoken for me, but he is a voice of reason and very electable here, even for a conservative white guy. And I believe he has the guts to stand up for what is right.

Thanks for your input. We will just have to wait and see what happens. I hope there are plenty of forums held so folks can hear the Republican Primary candidates and ask their own questions.

Ultimately it will be the voters in District 8 who make the final decision on Primary Election Day, August 24th. Then we will support the winner to face Grayson in November.

Cool. He pitched when I was playing. I played on St.Paul’s church team and he played for a church I used to attend, First Baptist Church of Central Florida, 3 minutes from my house. Were you on the FBCC team?

This was way back at Pine Hills 1st Bapt (I believe they changed their name after moving) when I was a runt kid around 16-19 yrs. old... ugh, 30 years ago. I was on the ‘A’ team one year, and the ‘B’ squad for a couple more until the UCF schedule made that impossible... usually played at/around the Lake Lorna Doone fields. Dan and his wife had the College/Career sunday school class back then, too. So one of my first-ever cast ballots was to put him in the state house for the first time in 1980.
