Steele: No reason for black GOP base By: Andy Barr April 21, 2010 05:43 PM EDT

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele told a group of students that African-Americans “don’t have a reason” to vote for Republicans.

Steele was asked Tuesday night during a speech to roughly 200 students at DePaul University why African-Americans should vote for GOP candidates.

“You really don’t have a reason, to be honest,” Steele responded, as was first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. “We haven’t done a very good job of giving you one.”

Steele has made similar comments in the past, saying during an interview in November that some white Republicans are “scared” of him.

“I’ve been in the room and they’ve been scared of me,” said the first African-American chairman of the RNC at the time. “I’m like, ‘I’m on your side.’”

Can we please find a chairman who can explain the freedom philosophy?

If Steele is not capable of explaining why an overbearing government is a threat, and why limited government is so necessary, if he can’t explain the connection between freedom and prosperity, if he can’t explain the difference between top down government and bottom up government, then he really has no business being in public life as a Republican.

democrat = be poor

republican = earn success

democrat = slavery of government dependence

republican = independence of self reliance

Steel is a CLEAR RINO.

Wow, how does a man this ignorant and this incompetent 1) fool a bunch of us into supporting him for Senate in Maryland and 2) become party chairman?

Well the GOP hasn’t given me a reason to vote for them in a long time. Opposing everything the Dims do is not enough to get my vote..

GOP just can’t seem to get it together.

That's true at all levels. Steele is only one example.

And yet some FReepers laughed at the idea of Ken Blackwell becoming RNC Chairman. They said he was far less capable than Steele.

Anybody laughing now?

In looking at this article carefully, most of it is rehash of old remarks. Very typical hit-piecey Politico.

Also, they are VERY selective about the quote. Is there something he said afterwards, like what the GOP is doing now?

A lot of the Blame Republicans First crowd say the exact same thing. I’m not saying he hasn’t said very stupid things, I just don’t see that this is new stupidity on his part.

Steele has certainly been an idiot when discussing race and it’s clear that he just will not attack Obama. He thinks it’s dangerous to black people if Obama fails. Ironically, continuing to live in the Democrats’ political ghetto is what’s setting black people back as a group.

How do Italians vote? How do Irish vote? Asians? They don’t feel that there is a problem with failing to vote in concert. It’s a crime that young black men are out of work and it doesn’t matter that it’s a black man doing it to them, he must be held to account.

The GOP establishment is racist, and by that I mean in the exact same way the Donks are: They saw a (half) black idiot win the Whitehouse and concluded “we need a high profile black guy, too.” The fact that McLame was a horrible RINO of a candidate doesn’t even cross their minds. They don’t see qualifications and are clueless on conservative principles. They just see race.

Add that to the many reasons why the GOP establishment sucks...

As a black conservative, I am just speechless. I can’t believe that he said this. What’s he got between his ears? Pudding?

Steele is a pathetic buffoon, and needs to go.

Actually, he does raise fear in me: Fear that the idiots in the GOP establishment will squander the opportunity presented by the rise of conservatism in this country and once again steal defeat from the jaws of victory...

"...African-Americans “don’t have a reason” to vote for Republicans. "

This pile of racist (as it turns out) excrement has turned into a Crist-like cement block around GOP ankles...

Would somebody PLEASE get rid of this peabrain.

I don’t give a damn about his skin color, I just want this idiot gone.

He has nothing to offer. He’s a waste of time and this dipstick might very well cause us to lose.

Put some Chinese guy that speaks broken English in charge... we would do far better than this halfwit.
