It’s election day in congressional District 19

Voters in congressional District 19 today will choose a replacement for U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, the Democrat who stepped down in January to head a Middle East think tank.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The district has more than twice as many Democrats as Republicans and voted 65 percent for Barack Obama in 2008. That makes Ted Deutch, a state Senator from Boca Raton, the heavy favorite. But Republican Ed Lynch hopes to ride voter dislike for the new Democratic health care law to an upset victory. And independent candidate Jim McCormick hopes enough voters are fed up with two-party politics to propel him into office.

The winner serves the last 8-1/2 months of Wexler’s term and will be up for reelection to a full two-year term in the fall.

Its time to vote in Fl 19. This is your chance. No one thinks Lynch can win this. If he does or the Democrat gets less than 50% then it is a "win" and it means big problems for the Democrats of course I think Lynch could pull this off. The Democrats aren't itching to go to the polls and the seniors will and seniors are very much against this health bill. This district is 40% seniors and Lynch though not well funded has had a committed army of volunteers and is up with a new ad.

Could I suggest that it would be nice if you showed the state in the title?

That would be great. But I think it is a safe gerrymandered socialist district like the one here in Tampa with Castor.

It just might happen. Its a real unknown. No polling that I know of. A largely senior district with a large Jewish population. If Obama is going to get a rebuke this is a district it could happen in. I just wish that third party candidate wasn’t in the race.

Close in a district like this would be nice.

If we are competitive here we should be able to do well in November.

There are 3 special elections - Hawaii and Pennsylvania also.

I have not seen much of this one on Free Republic.

Ya the 3rd party.

Some here think it is a good way to punish wayward republicans.

I think it is cutting ones nose off to spite his face.

If we had conservative states elect conservatives to congress, the wayward republican would be a minor pain nothing more. And the 3rd party talk / candidates would go away.

Third party splits the vote, and makes it more likely that the dem wins. Is the Republican a conservative?

I have been quite involved during the last few eeks of Campaigning for Edward Lynch: walking, sign-waving, phone-calling going door-to-door and planting signs.

McKormick is a Democrat plant; the strategists with OrganizingforAmerica.com and the FLorida D.N.C. knows that Ed Lynch is getting lots of face-time with local independents and Republicans.
Ted Deutch is getting endorsements from Palm Beach newspapers and die-hard Liberals and Dems but that's it!
Edward Lynch is totally-grassroots with most of his financial support coming from private citizens who recognize that He is fiscally-conservative 1st and foremost and Republican second.

This election is to replace Robert Wexler (D) who did not even live in Florida. In a district that has 2 Democrats to 1 Republican. And some out there think they will elect a Republican?
I doubt it.
After the Democrat is elected watch the MSM declare a vindication for The Great I Am and obamacare.

I’m not so sure. The Democrat margin has trended downward in the district.

Gore got 71% of the vote to 27% for Bush.

Kerry got 66% of the vote to 33% for Bush.

Obama got 65% of the vote to 34% for McCain.

Key things that will make a win happen. If the Democrats don’t bother to vote thinking its locked up it will be a big problem. Every Republican and Independent with any respect should be out in force today. The hard part will be keeping this seat in Nov but if Lynch wins he will have the status to raise funds going into Nov. People tend to only fund candidates they feel can win. This is unfortunate because the way you change districts like this one from unwinnable to winnable is by changing minds and making your case over and over again. I believe it isn’t totally beyond belief to see the race shift 16 points based on depressed Democrat voter turnout and motivated GOP independent turnout.

Wexler is gone? Ha. Where the hell have I been? That’s sweet! Now we can hope that Lynch takes it.

The Castor district’s map is a sight to behold. Gerrymandering at it’s best. For those who aren’t familiar, here’s a link:

I voted for Ed this morning. Everyone is asking me what the “I voted” sticker is for. These people are clueless.
