Been a lot of people saying it. For the last couple years really.
I guess Newt felt there were enough to provide cover for him to FINALLY state the obvious.
Testicles of solid Jello that one has...

Newt is one of the most, if not the most, brillant minds the Republican party has to offer. And it took him HOW LONG to finally come out with this "bold" statement?
Then again, I suppose he could be "brillant", a coward, and a political opportunist all at the same time.

I too am terrified. Let them all go to Iowa and NH and duke it out. Snobbish conservatives can find a flaw in anyone. It doesn’t really matter who the 2012 candidate is and Newt is as good as any of them. The 2010 and 2012 will be the most important elections we’ve ever had - the difference between saving or exterminating the American Experiment. Those here denigrating a first stringer like Newt only help the subversive media, labor unions and democrats.

Brilliant mind, intellectualist, knowledgeable, etc. aside, the man is fundamentally flawed.
He was once trusted with the future of the entire party and he lost that trust. I won't trust him again.
Acceptance of very fundamental flaws is what got the GOP where it is today - rationalization, appeasement, equivocation - working with Democrats (Scozzafava, Pelosi, etc.). We either have ideals or we do not.

Rest assured that like the Rotweilers in The Omen the media will do everything they can to protect their master. Good analogy!

Supposedly, FDR knew of the pending Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and did nothing. The story claims he believed that Americans wouldn't join the war unless we were attacked first.
Is this the Republican strategy for fighting the progressives' take down of the Republic? Compromise, enable, give in and do nothing to let the progressives take over everything. Then when we are on the verge of collapse and people see the reality of socialism from the edge of the cliff, ride in to save the day.
Just might work...
