First analyze.

Then assess judgement (based on various certainties of probabilities of aspects of the situation).

Then, based on that, Panic. (If warranted).

Some people get the order off some times. That's OK. ;-)

I've called things wrong in the past....

Rational thinking gets a little lopsided when it is personal. I was looking at the probabilities, tho. NK threatens hostilities and voila a Naval ship goes down.

I think we can limit the possibilities of what occurred to -

1) some type of on board munitions accident (according to Jane’s the only types of munitions stored toward the stern of the Cheoan are 12 depth charges)

2) 53cm wake homing torpedo fired by a N. Korean Romeo class sub running on batteries sitting on the sea bottom nice and quiet

3) some kind of mine

4) I have even seen in the past few hours the suggestion that the Cheoan may have run aground

2 and 3 are obviously very bad and have potentially dire consequences for regional security - Some of the factors to consider IMO when evaluating the probability of hostile N. Korean action: a) N. Korean military provacation to garner concessions for aid. b) Kim’s on death bed - does something stupid. I’ve also seen some analysts speculate that Kim may use a bold provacation before he dies to bolster internal support from the military to help ensure a smooth transition of power to his son. c) Sub commander who thought he was on the other side of the DMZ d) Rogue military element flexing muscles

1 would be very embarassing for S. Korea to admit, but ultimately a lot safer for everyone in the region. If this was an accident I do not see the downside to S. Korea coming out as soon as possible and making that pronouncement. Roughly 58 surviving eye-witnesses - we should be able to get some idea as to what happened

4 sounds like BS as just about every account I’ve read so far mentions an explosion of some type

Read the book, it is good. But the Sov sub tht sank in the Pacific actually tried a rogue nuke launch on the US. Fortunately, they did not know that there was a failsafe bomob on board that went off & sank the ship. Thus, we were saved from the attack. As you know, the Commies will stop at nothing to accomplish their goals...i.e.-the Scorpion!

Explosion Sinks S.Korean Navy Ship in Tense Border Area with NorthSouth Korean officials are not ruling out the possibility of a North Korean attack in the sinking of one of the South’s naval vessels. About half the more than 100 people on board the ship were rescued, and search efforts are still under way for the remaining crew. An explosion damaged the ship in a historically tense disputed border area.

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak ordered an emergency meeting of senior security officials Friday night, hours after an apparent explosion caused a South Korean patrol boat to sink.

Lee Gi-sik, with South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters the military’s primary focus was on saving those aboard. He says the South’s ship was passing southwest of South Korea’s Baeknyeong island when it began sinking due to damage on its bottom side. He says other vessels were mobilized and dozens of people were rescued from the distressed ship.

Anytime any US media says ‘no evidence’ means there is evidence, but nobody has decided how to frame who.

Exactly, they leave the door open in case it becomes so glaringly obvious that they have to admit it. They can't admit it was the NKs even if it was because they intend to do nothing about it. We are leaderless. Our leader is there only to destroy us and take our wealth and income and give it to his permanent underclass.

Some of the older sailors on the ship that I was on in 1959 had been on ships operating in Korean waters during the Korean War. There were, apparently, a lot of mines placed there in WWII and they told tales of close encounters of the worst kind with some of those mines. Question is: would a WWII mine still detonate if it had been able to allude the sweepers?

Make that elude the sweepers.

It was either a DPRK mine or a submarine attack.

On Korea:

"Let's not jump to conclusions here," State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said, responding to a question about any North Korean involvement. "I'm not aware of any evidence to that effect. But I think the authoritative source here would be the South Korean government."

On Maj. Hasan, who shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before killing 13 people at Fort Hood:

According to the FBI, investigators from one of its Joint Terrorism Task Forces determined "that the content of those communications was consistent with research being conducted by Maj. Hasan in his position as a psychiatrist at the Walter Reed Medical Center [in Washington]...Because the content of the communications was explainable by his research and nothing else derogatory was found, the JTTF concluded that Maj. Hasan was not involved in terrorist activities or terrorist planning," it said."

And we're supposed to trust them on Obamacare and nuclear disarmament too.

Cheers!

An attack by North Korea? A Gerbil?

This can only mean one thing:

"ARMAGEDDON!"

Cheers!

Can we re-phrase:

The U.S. (Obama controlled military higher-ups have covered up) any evidence of North Korean involvement.

I always find it interesting when i see quotes from the State Dept on Military issues. I do not doubt they don’t have evidence but if you were to ask the spokesman for the Defense Department he may not be able to make that exact statement. Media framing the talking points.
