A flock of birds could be a lame excuse for a massive screw up by the SK to put a hole in their ship

One would think the DOD has an eye on NK at all times though various means and we would for sure know they did something like this

I have heard that that same unidentified reason is the cause of many FReepers losing their weapons while fishing on the local lake.

"A flock of birds could be a lame excuse for a massive screw up by the SK to put a hole in their ship"

They're saying that when the South Korean ship immediately fired after the initial explosion, the target that was identified by radar was actually a "flock of birds", or so they think.

Radar wouldn't be able to identify a submarine (or a mine), and neither would American satellites.

As soon as a salvage crew arrives on scene and establishes visual contact of the sunken ship, they'll know within seconds what sunk her.

“An unidentified reason caused a hole in the ship”

A long lost WWII mine is my guess.

Things happen.

"Could have hit an untethered mine.."

It certainly could have. Although, I would point out that the media reports state that the explosion happened astern. It wouldn't be impossible for a mine to strike a ship here, but it would be unlikely. Most ships are struck in the bow or amidship along the keel.

Of course, like anything, the media reports could be completely inaccurate.
