On March 3, Congress passed emergency legislation delaying the 21.2 percent decrease in Medicare reimbursement rates for an additional 30 days. The TRICARE Management Activity greatly appreciates Congress' swift action as it allowed more time to fully evaluate the impact the decrease in Medicare reimbursement rates will have on the TRICARE program.
Whatever the outcome, TRICARE will take at least 30 days to fully understand the impact on TRICARE and take appropriate action. While federal law requires TRICARE reimbursement rates to be equal to Medicare rates to the extent practical, the law does permit TRICARE to make exceptions to ensure an adequate network of providers or to eliminate a situation of severely impaired access to care.
More information about this legislation and its impact on TRICARE will be posted on the TRICARE.mil website as soon as it becomes available.

We have tricare and I’ve already seen them reduce what they will pay for over the past year.
No one knows for sure but the Dim rats who put the ObamaCare together.
I’ve seen no discussion anywhere on this. Obviously, it was passed on the 3rd of March, but I would have thought this would have gotten to both the seniors, and to the military beneficiaries.
Huge voting blocks, and 21% is a huge decrease. The cynicism of passing it for 30 days is what really torques me.
As an ex-military man and a physician, I have to say that TRICARE is an abomination.
It pays about Medicaid rates, and that is only after negotiating a myriad of administrative hurdles and waiting for > 3 months to get paid. It’s embarrassing for retired military.
These guys are opeating in a blind panic. No plan, just do whatever feels best at the moment.

Active duty military and their families use TRICARE too, not just retirees.
True, for those that go outside the Military system.
But they’re going to have some of the same difficulties finding private physicians as medicaid patients do due to very poor reimbursement.
Of course there are people like me out there that tell our practice managers that no matter what happens with our willingness to take medicaid, I want to maintain taking TRICARE patients purely out of respect for those that serve.
Rally your local talk radio host into doing street protest in front of your reps local offices. Try and get the local media to cover it. Hammer the Medicare/SS issue, nothing like mad grannies and gramps.

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.
“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

First, I love TRICARE, a benefit of a career in the military. But I admit the reimbursement rate to doctors is laughable. On average, TRICARE pays for my medical bills at a rate of 20% (twenty percent) of billed amount. That is simply unfair and, as everyone is now using the word, unsustainable.
