Majority Hunts for Final Votes
Roll Call ^ | March 16, 2010 | Tory Newmyer and Steven T. Dennis

With passage of sweeping health care reform finally in view, House Democratic leaders are launching an all-out assault to win over the final pockets of resistance within their rank and file.

The marketing campaign is reaching full tilt even before leaders unveil the final package and finish taking the temperature of the Caucus on it. And the offensive already has all the hallmarks of a historic effort — with President Barack Obama delivering a campaign-style stem-winder on Monday to make a final public pitch for his plan, while House Democratic leadership began the more tedious work of privately buttonholing wavering lawmakers.

The strategy so far appears to combine a call for party loyalty with an argument for the measure on its merits — while publicly creating a sense of inevitability around its passage. And leaders are also pursuing targeted carrot-and-stick appeals to the self-interests of Members nervous about their re-election prospects. “It’s conversations about your future around this place and, with the White House, about what you’re going to get” in terms of political support, one senior Democratic aide said.

But the path to the 216 votes that House Democrats need to muster for a package of fixes that would likely simultaneously green-light the Senate-passed bill remained unclear...

Pelosi's strategy is to arm-twist unpersuaded Democrats while simultaneously reducing the necessary yes votes through forced resignation of the unpersuadable.

Bart Stupak was on Greta's show last night and stated he t they had somewhere around 200 votes right now.

The longer it goes the more people well peel off to save their jobs.

A big part of the strategy is also to push it as ‘inevitable’. How many times did they say they had the votes when they didn’t?

Now is the time for an all out superheroic push back. Now.

Code Red” - House Target List on Health Care

The National Republican Congressional Committee has published a target list on health care. In addition to continuing to contact the five Tennessee Democrat Congressmen, you can go http://www.votervoice.net/link/clickthrough/ext/94697.aspx to contact some of these targets. Much of the talk following Obama’s announcement has focused on how to defeat this second bill through reconciliation, but that is misleading because the first step to defeating Obamacare is not by concentrating on defeating the “fixer” bill but by defeating the Senate bill in the House when it goes to the floor for an up-or-down vote on Thursday, March 18th.

And here are toll-free numbers we can use to call any Senators or Reps.
At the first number below you must wait through a tape recording urging you to tell your Rep or Senator to vote “yes” for the health care bill. Just hang on and when the recording is over, you will get the Capitol operator. Just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Then you will either talk to an aid or have the chance to leave a message for him/her to vote NO on the health care bill.

When you use the second number and the Capitol operator comes on, just ask for your Rep or Senator’s office. Every time I use this number I get the Rep or Senator’s answer machine, so it may be set up that way all the time...to go to their answer machine. Either way you can leave a message to vote NO on the health care bill!

We need to use these toll free numbers that have been set up for the health care/ BO supporters and illegals to use! After all they are FREE!

Obama’s last-minute rally for Cokely in Mass backfired. Wouldn’t it be sweet if history repeats ?

I love how it takes two people to write this tripe, with the usual “sweeping” applause cliches.

David Dreier made several media appearances yesterday claiming that Democrats were peeling away. He did not cite any proof for his statement though.
