'Jerusalem construction will go on'

Despite R. Shlomo crisis, PM says Israel will continue to build in all parts of the capital.

While the United States continued to criticize Israel over an east Jerusalem housing project approved during US Vice President Joe Biden's visit to Israel least week, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday said construction in the capital would continue as usual.

"Construction in Jerusalem will continue in any part of the city as it has during the last 42 years," Netanyahu stressed at the Likud faction meeting.

"In the past 40 years, there was no government that limited construction in any Jerusalem area or neighborhood," Netanyahu said. "Establishing Jewish neighborhoods did not hurt Jerusalem's Arab residents and was not at their expense."

The prime minister said Israel was committed to the 10-month building moratorium in the West Bank.

In the US, however, Israel's Ambassador to Washington Michael Oren said the crisis over the approval of 1,600 new housing units in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood was "the worst since 1975."

Earlier Monday, at the Labor faction meeting, Defense Minister Ehud Barak also referred to the crisis with Washington, saying that "the government must work so the crisis will be forgotten and the talks get back on track," and explaining how he was working to decrease the tensions.

"I just had a meeting at the Knesset with Fred Hoff, aide to [US special Mideast envoy George] Mitchell, an American diplomat who has been working with us for many years, as well as with US Ambassador to Israel James Cunningham."

Barak told the faction that, "we discussed the necessary steps and possible ways to abate the recent tensions and resume the negotiations with the Palestinians."

The negotiations, Barak said, are "supremely needed and are an issue that Labor believes in. It's one of the reasons we are in the government."

Sounds good to me. I hope he is hit with disappointment after disappointment with him trying to ruin this country.

Does anyone ever wonder just what in the hell happened to Ehud Barak?

He was a distinguished military commander who put his life on the line fighting for Israel’s survival, yet once he got into politics he somehow lost the ability to perceive his country’s real enemies and has spent much of his career appeasing them.

I read yesterday that east Jerusalem never was part of the destruction agreement (no part of Jerusalem for that matter).

Also, Jerusalem is mentioned over 600 times in the bible and no time in the Koran.

Finally, it is open to interpretation if Mohammad's night flight aboard his winged donkey named Barack originated from Jerusalem.

Well..., the U.S. shouldn't be telling any other country how to run its own affairs, in any case, no matter what Administration it is. That just goes without saying.

It's not so much that Honduras or Israel tells the U.S. that it will take care of its own affairs as that's not such a big deal anyway. I mean, how much of a big deal would you think it was, if a home owner objected and "refused" -- when a neighbor told the homeowner how to position their living room furniture in their own house.

You wouldn't think twice about that, because you know that it's a "given" that a homeowner places the furniture anywhere they want.

SO..., that wouldn't be the "big deal" you see... i.e., that the person said, "I'll put my furniture anywhere I want to in my own house!"... LOL ...

NO..., you would think the "big deal" was -- that someone from the outside even opened their mouth in the first place to tell and insist where the homeowner should place their furniture... doncha know.

So, when the past administrations, from decades ago, and this present one -- have been telling Israel how to run their own affairs in their own country -- that -- has been the big deal...

And the U.S., and all the previous Administrations, including this present one, has been telling Israel exactly that. So, the U.S. should quit what it has been doing for decades and butt out of Israel's business.

If it is one thing that the Jews in Israel can do is tell King Obama and his sick partner Biden to go to He!!. Good for them. Can’t understand what the American Jews were thinking when they supported King Obama and help vote him in.

I'll have to disagree with that assessment that the "American people" stand with Israel on these matters. The fact of the matter is that's not true for the "American people" as an integrated whole. They are split on the matter.

In fact, President Bush pushed the splitting apart of Israel into two different states, giving one of the states to the Muslim terrorists. That clearly tells you that all of the U.S. is clearly "not with Israel" on these matters.

In fact, it was the U.S. that was the prime mover in pushing Israel, in the first place (back when the Oslo Accords was happening) to even "negotiate" with Muslim terrorists and give them "land for peace". That was the U.S. who made that big push.

The U.S. has not been "with Israel" on all these matters, from way back when, especially when you consider it was because of the U.S. that Israel even had to start "talking" with Muslim terrorists in the first place, and that Israel had to give Muslim terrorists "land" in exchange for a "peace" that Muslim terrorist will never do. They just keep taking the land, and never give "peace"... doncha know.

So, no... the "American people" (as some kind of integrated whole) is not with Israel on this.

In fact, there is a large segment of Christians, who should know better, who is not "with Israel" in these matters, and don't even think that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has anything more to do with Israel. Yeah, a large group of Christians!

They think that God has finished with Israel and has no more to do with Israel than God has to do with Malaysia or Korea, or Norway, or Peru -- or any other country in the world. In other words, there are "no more prophecies" that God has to fulfil with Israel as God is finished with Israel and the "church" has taken the place of Israel -- so these Christians lobby against Israel all the time.

Sorry, I don't see it, that the "American people" are with Israel in these matters.

“thinking” had nothing to do with it. Most American Jews pull the “D” lever as a reflex and then rationalize it on the basis of all the usual cliches.

American Jews are like many so-called "American Christians" in that they think the the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is finished with Israel and that the "church" has replaced Israel, and so they think that Israel deserves no more favor or attention (in regards to any of the former promises of God to Israel) than North Korea deserves.

It basically "doesn't matter" to them, you see....

It's only those particular Christians who know that the promises to Israel are still valid and that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will be totally fulfilled in the coming Kingdom of the Messiah, here on this earth, with Him ruling and reigning from Jerusalem over all the nations of the world -- it's "those Christians" who know that it's "Biblical" to continue supporting Israel, because God has not abandoned Israel and God will continue to bring Israel to the point where it will be the nation of Israel who will rule over all the other nations of the world (including, by the way, ruling over the United States, too... :-) ...).

Sorry, I don't see it, that the "American people" are with Israel in these matters.

You are reading too much into that phrase. I am not talking about current/past administrations, but the People. According to a recent Gallup poll, 63% of Americans say their sympathies lie with the Israelis--a near-record high--vs. just 15% with the Palestinians. that is pretty dramatic, and demonstrates how off base Obama is with this anti-Israeli policies.

Couldn't agree more. The Founding Fathers were clear not to get involved in the affairs of others.

Drill here-and there would be no need to get involved outside our borders-unless there was some overwheliming reason-like the defense of Western Civilization-and since that is almost gone-we can pretty much pull up the drawbridge.

I would absolutely consider revenge for 9/11 adequate reason.

"In the past 40 years, there was no government that limited construction in any Jerusalem area or neighborhood," Netanyahu said. "Establishing Jewish neighborhoods did not hurt Jerusalem's Arab residents and was not at their expense."

One should remember -- here -- that the United Nations considers Israel as an "international city" and not one that is under the sovereignty of Israel. And so, the United Nations figures (no joke here... now...) that it should administer the governance of Jerusalem and that Israel is not the legitimate possessor of the city of Jerusalem. This is the legal position of the United Nations on the matter.

I think that this is what is part of the setting of the control of the coming Anitchrist, to rule over the city of Jerusalem as an "International city" when the time comes for him to come on the scene.

We'll be in the last 7 years (called the Tribulation time) which leads up to the Messiah of Israel coming and going to war against all the enemy forces of the Antichrist, in the world and destroying them all... and regaining control of Jerusalem, and setting up the "world capital" under the Kingdom of the Messiah of Israel and from there, the Messiah will rule over all the nations of the world.

That's an interesting "twist" isn't it... LOL ...

First, all the nations of the world, take control of Jerusalem, through the United Nations, and then Israel, under control of the Messiah of Israel, takes control of all the countries in the United Nations and runs them all, from His world capital city of Jerusalem... quite a "twist of fate" I would say... :-)

Barack Obama ignores unspeakable mass murder by Muslims and human rights atrocities by Muslims in scores of countries around the world (in fact almost all the disputes in the world today across the globe have to do with Muslims not accepting the existence of non-Muslims). But when one country in this world, and one of the teeniest needs to built some apartments, all of Obama’s wrath in unleashed. This Manchurian candidate Obama needs to be stopped legislatively and judicially before he does any more harm to the free world, to the cause of human rights and the cause of justice. Obama cynically uses the word “justice,” but he walks the walk of a despot.
