Famed PLO terrorist-turned-Christian Walid Shoebat is warning that the United States needs to be watching not Iran, Syria or even Hamas and Hezbollah as closely as it needs to follow the actions of the Islamic leaders of Turkey.

It was just a few months ago when Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin reported Turkey appeared to be seeking the restoration of the old Ottoman Empire.

The report said Turkey's increasing lack of interest in the European Union combined with its efforts to re-establish its influence in Turkic countries of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and its outreaches to Russian, Syria and Iran are cause for concern.

At the time, the shift by Tayyip Recep Erdogan, Turkey's leader, from West to East was obvious, because Turkey announced it was cutting Israel out of annual military exercises involving NATO forces while it sought out military exercises with Syria.

Many things I've read suggest that Turkey,a comparative same moslem country,is sliding back to the 9th Century much like most other moslem countries.They're dangerous at least partially because they're part of NATO.

I believe that these demonstrations are from a couple of years ago. True that the AKP was first elected and then retained control the following election -- but it was with the promise to respect Turkey's constitutional democratic Republic.

No, it "progressed" a few decades while Muhammad was trying to get the Christian and Jewish kingdoms of the Arabian peninsula to sign on by including Friday prayers, prayers facing Jerusalem, etc., until they told him to pound sand. Very shortly after that he called for a peace conference and then killed the delegations and shortly thereafter ridded the Arabian peninsula of its high tech Jewish and Christian civilization. This was the origin of the extreme Saudi position against anything other than Islam in Saudi Arabia.

If it hadn't been for the Black Death, the Roman and Persian Empires would have been able to keep hiring the Arabian Bedouins as mercenaries and Muhammad wouldn't have had the time or opportunity to devise anything different.

Perhaps your right. The bigger question to me is, which side will be more ruthless and unrelenting in pursuing their goals?

I notice in the linked article that much of the resistance movement is supported by women and women’s groups. I hate to think what treatment awaits them in the confrontation.

Indeed. Until very recently, there were those who poo-pooed the makeup of the coalition because it includes Turkey. No longer far fetched at all. The puzzle pieces continue to slide into place.

BTW, I spent a week in Istanbul this past fall.

There are some strange elements to all of this that mimic pre-WWI Europe.

After the Austro-Hungarian Empire fought encroaching Islam for hundreds of years, in the 19th century, they and Britain then made deals with Turks to the detriment of the people actually living in the Balkans. One of those "deals" was the creation of Albania in 1908.

If you substitute today's Germany-driven EU for the Austro-Hungarian Empire, they are acting in a similar fashion -- alternately fighting then joining them.
