Texas Approves Curriculum Revised by Conservatives [Hugh answer to prayer]
NY Slimes ^ | Mar 12, 2010 | JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr.

After three days of turbulent meetings, the Texas Board of Education on Friday voted to approve a social studies curriculum that will put a conservative stamp on history and economics textbooks, stressing the superiority of American capitalism, questioning the Founding Father’s commitment to a purely secular government and presenting Republican political philosophies in a more positive light.

The vote was 11 to 4, with 10 Republicans and one Democrat voting for the curriculum, and four Democrats voting against.

In recent years, board members have been locked in an ideological battle between a bloc of conservatives who question Darwin’s theory of evolution and believe the Founding Fathers were guided by Christian principles and a handful of Democrats and moderate Republicans who have fought to preserve the teaching of Darwinism and the separation of church and state.

Since January, Republicans on the board have passed more than 160 amendments to the 120-page curriculum standards affecting history, sociology and economics courses from elementary to high school. The standards were proposed by a board of teachers.

The standards, reviewed every decade, serve as a template for publishers of textbooks, who must come before the board next year with drafts of their books. The board’s makeup will have changed by then because the leader of the conservative faction, Dr. Don McLeroy, lost in a primary to a more moderate Republican, and two others — one Democrat and one conservative Republican — have announced they are not seeking re-election.

martin_fierro built it several years ago, but his photobucket used up all the bandwidth, so I had him email it to me. It’s definitely a keeper.

The original definitions from Webster from a
real paper 1887 Webster dictionary in my possession
[not the apparently politically biased
edited internet Webster which stamps the primary definition of that word “conservatism” with a political denotation]:

1. “conservative principals; the disposition
and tendency to preserve what is established.”

1. history “ 1. a narrative of events;”

1. half-truth “A statement of part of the facts,
the remaining facts being purposely suppressed;
an incomplete recital, - usually intended to evade
blame, or to deceive.”

Thus preservation of events, documents and
characters which contributed to the
establishment the United States of America
would fall under that particular definition of
Conservatism.

A narrative of events, documents and
characters which contributed to the
establishment the United States of America
would fall under that particular definition of
American History.

Ergo, if important characters or events that
affected the history of a nation, are omitted
in a history book, the book cannot be qualified
as a valid history book but contains half-truths,
and could not be used in a court of law as a
reference book- [the whole truth, nothing
but the truth].
If a history book cannot be used in a court of law
as a reference book, it cannot be used in the
classroom either.

What would be the underlying intent of
the writers of such a ‘history book’? -
writers of half-truths “usually intended to evade
blame, or to deceive.”
If the intent is to deceive, then surely penalties
and/or punishment or fines are in order.
If somenone attempts to distort history and teach
it as the whole truth to our children, surely the penalty
should be commensurate with the deed.
