Well...I was at an event at the American Ambassador’s house in Brussels and I actually WON the album as a gift....

Go figure.

I don’t care what Shep is...but from what I saw today...he wasn’t helping the debate. He was acting like one of the opinion guys...

He should stick to “straight” news.

GOP=PARTY OF KNOW

Original was in a Tennessee newspaper. Tenn freeper posted it in first 1,000. Several have been spreading it around all day. Please do the same.

Just change tag line.....

I take vitamins and supplements, too.

We’ll have to get them on the black market.

Did you come up with that?

No. A letter writer in this morning's Tennessean did. You can read his letter in post #2439 on this thread.

I think the point became more clear in the so-called summit today: the Pity Party vs. the Party of Know.

Abeautiful and moving testimony.

You’ve done your Mom proud.

I just wish someone would have explained “how” this would lower premiums!

That's the question I keep asking. Every opportunity I get, I ask Obama voters to explain to me how a monopoly (i.e. single-payer plan) will result in lower prices and better service. I dare them to show me a single monopoly where this is the case. And yes, these are the same people who rant about the collusion of oil companies/pharmaceutical companies/insurance companies, etc., and the high prices/poor service that results from it. Of course when it comes to the government, everything will be different.

Republicans are now the party of 'know'

Several recent letters to The Tennessean have excoriated the Republicans because they have refused to go along with the legislative proposals of the Democrats, while Democrats hold substantial majorities in Congress.

These writers have derisively referred to the Republicans as the “party of no” claiming that they have offered no ideas to help solve the nation’s problems.

While the claim of offering no solutions is arguable, I would posit that a “no” is oftentimes justified.

I know a hot stove will cause injury to my child, so having an alternative plan to my command of “no” isn’t really necessary.

The Republicans saying “no” to the massive expansion of federal programs Democrats are trying to force through Congress know that such will erode individual liberty and the nation’s fiscal well-being.

Maybe, at least in this instance, the Republicans should be referred to as the “party of know.”

The advantage of hindsight offers several reasons as to why this was a disaster for the Democrats.

1. When Obama took on the Republicans at their conference in Baltimore, it was the whole room against him. He gained points for toughness because it appeared that he held his own against an overwhelming number of opponents. In this setting, Obama was one of the entire panel, thus lowering himself to the position of simply being one of the combatants.

2. Obama's poor speaking ability is amplified when those on his side also talk with a lack of coherence. Again, when he was by himself, people cut him some slack on this because he was against the whole room. Whoever decided to bring some of those 'old veterans' to this discussion should have their credentials revoked.

3. By making it a SIX HOUR event, the opportunity to get bogged down was a foregone conclusion. Make it a one hour event and things move along pretty snappy. By committing to a "thorough airing", Obama guaranteed that somewhere along the way, someone would say something ridiculously stupid. He just didn't expect it to be him.

4. Serious misjudgement about the actual points of discussion. Sob stories are a great way to humanize a discussion; however, they, in and of themselves, cannot be the entire discussion. Mix in a few facts, even if they're wrong.....

Massive failure on so many fronts. Poor decision making, petty attitude, no leadership, lack of foresight and unpreparedness.

Opinion journalism is not Shep's friend: his excitable little yapper dog manner makes straight news lively enough (even if his style isn't for me), but he lacks the philosophical base and seriousness necessary for opinion work. I like someone more serious like Hume, but given Shep's success, I guess there are plenty of people who feel differently.

Good analysis and great points.

It’s mindboggling that out of the six hours, Obama hogged three hours for himself.

Painting a lattice! That sounds delightful! I love lattice work. I missed BOR. His replay starts in 10 minutes. Hannity - Sarah was on from Alaska and also McCain - and Greta has a good show.

Excellent points, TexasNative2000!

Obama was also unprepared for a very prepared and co-ordinated GOP. He stuttered and stammered and had to resort to rather rude behavior. He should not have tried to make it quite so informal either. Calling the senators and House members by their first names was not a good form.

Obama also hogged too much of the time. As it turned out, Obama had more time than the Republicans were given altogether nd the democrats had twice the time of the Republicans.

LOL @ the sob stories. The denture story will remain a classic, but the others were run of the mill and totally out of place.

I think the GOP did a grand job and apparently that’s the consensus. It’s up to the democrats now, just like it’s been from the start.

I think he calls his own name out during sex.

He can't decide if he's a cunning linguist or a master debater.

McCain again... IS Hannity one of his campaign managers, McCain hardly gave Fox the time of day when he was running for President, now Hannity or Greta have him on constantly..

Yes, lattice on the patio was getting too weathered, spring is coming and I’ve been painting and planting spring flowers.

I think something happened to Shep when he was covering Katrina; ever since he has been one step away from the looney bin and has a hard time dealing fairly with Republicans he interviews on his show.
