U.S. energy secretary Steven Chu said Wednesday that the U.S. must decrease its energy use to allow developing nations the room to grow, while emphasizing that prosperity doesn't have to come with a large carbon footprint.
"We believe we have to decrease our use of energy to allow headroom for the developing nations to grow their economies," Chu said in a speech in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.
"There is no law of physics that says prosperity is proportional to carbon emissions," Chu said.

Skru Chu
Then why do developing countires need more energy to grow?
I'll wait...
Rationing. Just like with transportation, income, credit, education, housing, health care.
It’s all about control through rationing.
How much Natgas, Coal, Oil, Oil shale/sands do we have? How do you ‘help’ or ‘make room’ for others by lowering yourself to ‘other’ standards’?
Compare Cary Grant’s line from some 1950s movie..... (paraphrase) We do not raise standards of living of other countries by lowering ours, but, rather, by encouraging the other countries’ standards to rise to ours.
Who would be stupid enough to believe this nonsense?
Ahh, Chu.
From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.
Commies.
“the U.S. must decrease its energy use to allow developing nations the room to grow”
Utterly ignorant zero-sum marxist “thinking.” If the US scales back, we won’t be able to contribute to those developing nations and they will stagnate. Oh, wait, that’s already happening.
What a moron.
“Objectively speaking, that’s the real goal of this administration. A much poorer, less powerful, less comfortable, less happy, less secure America”
Yup, and may I add “that is easier to RULE over.”
What collection of idiots decided this guy deserved his PhD?
This man’s philosophy is the epitome of liberalism - instead of coming up with a way to reduce the cost and increase the availability of energy, Chu’s solution is to impose limitations on the very people who would likely solve his problem.
Is it 2012 yet?
“These commies don’t get it; and they are a menace to our Nation.”
Some, mostly donk voters, don’t get it, but wannabe dictators entirely get it. General prosperity is a obstacle to seizing total power, both because people can’t be scared into it and because prosperous people have better options for resistance (e.g., forming TEA party movements).
What kind of vile marxist POS is this guy? Oh, he’s just like the vile marxist POS pretending to be president.
There is, however, a law of nature which is survival of the fittest. Societies rise and fall based on their ability to remain healthy and thrive. We use the amount of energy we use because we are thriving. By starving ourselves for the benefit of other societies which haven’t learned to thrive on their own, we weaken our society so that others may grow stronger. Unfortunately, as they grow stronger they will not hesitate to walk over the ailing body of older societies who were stupid enough to forgo their own growth for the benefit of others. Charity is wonderful as an individual virtue, it is the death knell for societies.
Turn off the electricity to all Democrat homes, and confiscate all Democrat-owned cars.
Don’t count on it. The stupid party just gave Harry reid cover on his boondoggle “jobs” bill. 13 idiots ‘crossed the aisle’.
Of course Chu had to add that the economy “can” grow, that is if they do everything MaObama says and go “Green”.
(Watermellon green that is.)
There is, however, a law that says powerful nations use more power.
The depression should take care of the energy use.
The last time the earth contained a more or less stable quantity of energy was before the dawn of man, whose ability to control and improve his environment was unique among living beings.
Think about that and then ask yourself what these Progressives are really up to.
