Syrian PM says if future conflict erupts it will affect "the region and beyond."
Syrian Prime Minister Naji al-Otari on Saturday warned Israel that any new Mideast war would be catastrophic for the region and beyond.
Speaking to reporters Saturday after meeting with French Prime Minister Francois Fillon, he said that a new war will have dangerous repercussions not only in the Middle East but also on the international level.
Syria's foreign minister warned Israel earlier this month that any new war would reach Israeli cities, to which Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman responded that the Syrian army would be defeated and its regime would collapse in any future conflict.
Otari's statements to his French counterpart on Saturday come after several weeks of quiet in the Israeli-Syrian war of words.
The United States, meanwhile, has appointed a new ambassador to Syria after the previous administration led by George W. Bush withdrew its ambassador in 2005.
It also withdrew travel warnings saying that American citizens would face security risks if they traveled to Syria.
The US did not, however, remove Syria from its list of states sponsoring terrorism.

Isaiah 17:1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
Of course, the United Sttes will be no part of that catastrophe, doncha know. Just hold off until we have bugged out of the region completely, and we ARE leaving.
At least that is on the timetable for 2013, providing the American people will do the ‘correct’ thing, and return the Muslim sympathizer to office.
Or not.
For Syria it sure will be.
If I was Netanyahu I would diplomatically tell them to STFU or bring it.
...waiting for the Captain Obvious picture...
If and when we ever find the WMD that Saddam stashed there, there won’t be any Syria to worry about.
These guys talk big...but then again, their buddy is in the Jihad House in DC.
The Syrians should go back and read their Herodotus. Croesus made the same mistake.
No doubt, Israel would respond with nukes within minutes of identifying WMD on a Syrian warhead.
Same goes for the smaller rockets coming out of Lebanon...Tehran and Damascus would both be incinerated.
Make my day!!!!!

He's right, though it depends on the nature of the war. If it's just Gaza, Lebanon and Syria engaged, it'll be catastrophic for Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, and tragicly unpleasant for Israel. The region will do fine. Iran, that's a regional problem. And beyond, given the fact that Iran has indicated they'll attack western interests.
You go that right on!...
