March for Life, Roe vs. Wade Rally Disrupting Traffic in DC

The annual event to march in Washington DC as a pro-choice or pro-life participant is happening today. With streets around the National Mall closed, parking restrictions, as well as fourteen bus lines being rerouted and the slowing of commuter trains from Maryland, traffic Disruption in Washington DC is a big concern today.

The National Organization for Women, Choice USA and NARAL Pro-Choice America are gathering at noon at the Supreme Court, 1st Street NE between Maryland Ave and East Capitol in Washington DC as well. The Supreme Court decision Roe vs. Wade decided in 1973 to make abortion legal in the United States, thus prompting these organizations and the annual January 22nd rally. Abortion and a women's right to choose or not has been at the forefront of political conflict ever since.

For the March for Life rally, Washington Post states: "At about 11:30 a.m., many of the rally participants will march to the Mall from an event at the Verizon Center. This will require temporary closures along 7th Street NW from F Street to Madison Drive. The main rally is scheduled for noon on the Mall at 7th Street NW. At about 2:15 p.m., participants will march to the Supreme Court. The route will take them north on 4th Street NW to Pennsylvania Avenue, then east to Constitution Avenue and up Capitol Hill to the intersection of 1st Street NE and East Capitol Street. Police will temporarily close the route and cross streets to vehicles during the march."

March for Life is also going virtual this year. Visit their website to find out how. Getting to these places in person might be a problem, but for the residents attempting to simply get around, they've got another thing coming.

So we despise Katie Couric but we want her to mention the March for Life? Isn’t that a little - odd?

I can tell you what the big networks will say. This is not news - this same rally takes place every year, the same speeches, same slogans, same o same o. It needs a new twist to get their attention.

YES, Mike Pence was there, and God Bless him and FNC, they let him speak during their coverage.

Mike Pence should be the Republican nominee for President in 2012.

I’d support him!
I have read on a couple of threads here, that Mike Pence is mulling a run against Even Bayh for the US Senate this year. Have you heard anything about that?

I hadn’t heard about that, but he has shown time and time again that he has a rare mix of principles, ability, and charisma.

He can beat Barack.

Incidentally, “Beat Barack” makes a great 2012 slogan.

By 3:30, when the Silent No More group started speaking in front of the Supreme Court, the pro-aborts were down to about a dozen. I don’t know how many there were earlier.

Did Obama’s innauguration disrupt traffic?

The city shut down in expectation that it would. They closed every road for blocks around and we all got an extra day off. Those of us who got paid were happy, others not so much.

Are you watching FOX?

They just repeated the coverage, complete with Mike Pence’s statement.

Yes, he can beat the fruad-in-chief, IMO, also.

"more good"

You can't say "made men good", because as Jesus said,

so I went for "more good".

Switched from Fox to Cspan 2 and have watched all the speeches (now over).

National Anthem now being sung by group from Liberty University I think.

People moving into the actual “march” mode.

But, GRRRRRRRR, Cspan has it as “anti-abortion” rally.

I know - it is.

BUT THEY SHOULD CALL IT PRO-LIFE WHICH IS WHAT IT ALSO IS IN A BIG BIG WAY - MORE THAN JUST PRO THE LIFE OF UNBORN BABIES - THOUGH THAT’S THE MAIN FOCUE - BUT PRO THE LIFE OF ALL THOSE WHOSE LIVES ARE CONSIDERED EXPENDABLE BY THE GODLESS LEFTISTS.,....including the old, the feeble, and those with assorted disabilities.

I was there today! It was amazing! The mall was so packed you could hardly move, literally. LOTS of young people. Several pols spoke: Mike Pence, Todd Aiken, Jim Sensenbrenner, Joseph Cao (who I thought, huh??? Aren’t you the only R who voted FOR the Death Bill?) Also some from Alabama, Texas, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, California and my rep from Maryland who is the only R in our congressional delegation (and age 83!)

The weather ended up being pretty okay. It didn’t rain and it wasn’t all that cold. I didn’t see ANY pro-aborts at all. It was wall-to-wall pro-lifers as far as you could see in any direction. Even on the march up Constitution Ave. and past the Capitol, I never saw any counterprotesters. On a bathroom trip into one of the buildings, I got a nasty look from a 20-something, but that was the extent of it. Several people had Tea Party signs as well as pro-life signs. All in all, a great trip!

“Outstanding picture. They disrupted traffic and were pigs to their host city. The grounds after the March for Life are pristine.”

What more can we expect from a horde of baby-eating orcs?

Oh, I meant to say the only media I saw there at all was one FOX truck and EWTN who had a cameraman right at the stage on the mall and also on the march route up Constitution. It had to have been at least 300-400,000 people. Maybe more. I wonder how many the pro-aborts had at their meeting at the USSC and how much media were there?

I’m watching tos, thanks to Starwise for alerting me.

Like you, I’m also very disappointed (and angry) with the title, when it’s been called THE MARCH FOR LIFE, marking the 37 anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, FOR YEARS NOW!!!

God Bless Everyone there and everyone there in spirit.

Lord hear our prayer.
