Obama blasts court decision By Eric Zimmermann - 01/21/10 01:22 PM ET
President Obama came out swinging today against the Supreme Court's ruling in a major campaign finance case.
In a statement issued by the White House, Obama said the decision "has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics."
He added that his administration will work with Congress to soften the impact of the decision. Here's his full statement:
With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans. This ruling gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington--while undermining the influence of average Americans who make small contributions to support their preferred candidates. That's why I am instructing my Administration to get to work immediately with Congress on this issue. We are going to talk with bipartisan Congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision. The public interest requires nothing less.
Democrats are already working on legislation to address the decision, which struck down limits on independent expenditures by corporations and labor groups.
Which is exactly how the majority of the Supreme Court saw it.
Cato's got a good video up, quoting some alarming Government testimony before SCOTUS that proves just how much the BCRA could restrict first amendment speech.
Citizens United (Hillary: the Movie) v. Federal Election Commission
He should sure know he got plenty of dough from the unions, the banks!
Hypocritical piece of crap that he is even on the tax cheat signing when his administration is filled with cheaters!
“Sounds to me like Obamah is saying this is a victory for the Private Sector and a defeat for the Big Government. “
Exactly and it should lead to better candidates and reduce the “incumbent advantage”. Candidates without name recognition have trouble getting enough money to start their campaigns because they don’t have enough money to contact them... kind of a catch 22.
With a sponsor, or a number of sponsors, they can now more easily get their campaign “off the ground” and better compete with those who have the trappings of their office.
Obma gets his money from Soros.
‘in our politics’
Right there were the 3 key words of the whole thing.
Obama doesn’t want any ads run against him and the Democrats after having beat up on corporations, he doesn’t want them able to run ads against them....
And ‘our’ politics? Isn’t it America’s ?
Some here on FR were actually whining about this decision, I wont name names but they had some twisted resoning that corporate America is now in the back pocket of Obama and the law should have stood. One answer for that..take your meds
So sad...
I saw a bumper sticker that needs to go viral:
STOP GOVERNMENT UNION GREED
Says it all....
Just what I was thinking. Why should SCOTUS give two hoots what TOTUS thinks? This is beyond ego.
It reminds me of an old schoolyard taunt. “Who died and made you King of the World”?
FUBO you stinking jug-eared lying Marxist.
This from the biggest crook in election history - he took foreign money directly. On purpose with a configuring of his cc inputs on his website.
The Constitution was designed to keep the baser aspects of human nature from driving the country over a cliff. It was intended to keep us on the track that was defined by our founding principles, and to do it rigidly.
Would that he got this upset over islamic jihadists wanting to murder us all.
His priorities are screwy, to say the least.
right.
What a lying phony he is.
From the king of special interests we have this statement. How amusing.
Good to see SOTUS joining in the slaughter!
Anyone know how our new gal on the court voted.
