Harry Reid apologizes for "light skinned" ["with no Negro dialect"] remark about Obama
The Washington Post ^ | 1/9/10 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 01/09/2010 10:30:22 AM PST by LdSentinal

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) apologized today for referring to President Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect" in private conversations during the 2008 presidential campaign.

"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words," said Reid in a statement. "I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments."

The Senate Majority Leader was officially neutral in the primary fight between Obama and then Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). Reid's remarks about Obama were revealed in "Game Change", a book detailing the 2008 race penned by Time's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann.

Reid's apology comes on the same day that a new poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review Journal showed him facing an uphill fight for re-election in 2010. Reid trailed former state Republican party chairwoman Sue Lowden by a 50 percent to 40 percent margin and was behind businessman Danny Tarkanian (R) 49 percent to 41 percent.

Only one in three voters viewed Reid favorably while 52 percent saw him in an unfavorable light in the poll.

Harry Reid apologizes for “light skinned” [”with no Negro dialect”] remark about Obama;

Not good enough, Reid now has to go on an apology tour and from now on be called “Reid, who has apologized for racist remarks” in all news stories.

Try and tell blacks about all of this and they just don’t want to know

The Democrats, like heroin dealers, have used "free stuff" (confiscated from other people) to buy the votes of blacks and get them addicted to government. That toothpaste is out of the tube. Try taking the heroin away from the addicts, go ahead... It's only natural that blacks will consistently walk into the voting places to make sure their drug dealers stay in the neighborhood.

YOU KNOW Michelle and B.Hussein are livid about this.
I would not put it past the ‘Rats to be leaking this on purpose for several reasons:
1-Barry hates Harry because he cannot control him.
2-Harry’s re-election is in serious doubt.

The Dumocrats bend, break, and manipulate the rule in their favor with nary a peep from the GOP.

Why not have Harry resign...appoint a more appropriate sock-puppet...have a true Obama minion as Majority leader...run an effective 2010 strategy that does not involve Reid and his baggage???

I believe there is room under the bus.

Reid is seventy years old, and “Negro” was the polite term of his youth.

They keep changing it so often I don't think they even know what they are.

He was wowed by Obama's oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama -- a "light-skinned" African American

The PC part comes into play because he apologized to Obama. Who he really needs to apologize to is all voters for insulting their intelligence. We're not all like him and the other 'rats. Light skin, dark skin, whatever--ones pigmentation never enters my mind when voting. He'll never get that. Would it matter to you if Ronald Reagan was a "dark skinned African American"? Would you have voted for Jimmy Carter if that was the case?

"...unless he wanted to have one."

THAT should be the most offensive thing. Reid is saying that Obama fakes a "black accent" when it serves his purposes. Just like Hillary, btw.

The funny thing about this is Reid isn’t half the racist Obama is. I guarantee Obama says much worst about white people in private.

Lord have mercy. What kind of parallel universe are we living in, anyway?

Sharpton backs Reid

I have learned of certain unfortunate comments made by Senator Reid regarding President Barack Obama and have spoken with Senator Reid about those comments. While there is no question that Senator Reid did not select the best word choice in this instance, these comments should not distract America from its continued focus on securing healthcare or creating jobs for its people. Nor should they detract from the unquestionable leadership role Senator Reid has played on these issues or in the area of civil rights. Senator Reid's door has always been open on hearing from the civil rights community on these issues and I look forward to continue to work with Senator Reid wherever possible to improve the lives of Americans everywhere.

Let’s create a RAT with the intelligence of Janet Napolitano, the likeablity of Harry Reid, and the integrity of Chris Dodd.

Why create one? There's already way too many of them.
