Harry Reid apologizes for "light skinned" ["with no Negro dialect"] remark about Obama
The Washington Post ^ | 1/9/10 | Chris Cillizza

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) apologized today for referring to President Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect" in private conversations during the 2008 presidential campaign.

"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words," said Reid in a statement. "I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments."

The Senate Majority Leader was officially neutral in the primary fight between Obama and then Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). Reid's remarks about Obama were revealed in "Game Change", a book detailing the 2008 race penned by Time's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann.

Reid's apology comes on the same day that a new poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review Journal showed him facing an uphill fight for re-election in 2010. Reid trailed former state Republican party chairwoman Sue Lowden by a 50 percent to 40 percent margin and was behind businessman Danny Tarkanian (R) 49 percent to 41 percent.

Only one in three voters viewed Reid favorably while 52 percent saw him in an unfavorable light in the poll.

Don’t fret. As soon as we learn the answers, they’re gonna change the questions.

I don’t deliberately go around trying to offend people, so if someone is offended by what I say or do, I’m of the opinion that THEY have the problem.

Aw, you know why Byrd, Kennedy, and many others don’t retire form the Senate. All that power, none of the responsibility. Pure gravy every day.

...The one I don’t get is Hillary. Of course, I don’t have her mind or perspective, but I would have told Barrack, politely, “No, thank you, please!” if he’d asked me to give up the Senate to be Secretary of State.

BWAHAHAHAHA! Talk about a late Christmas present. His numbers are already in the toilet, let’s hope this is the nail in the coffin.

"Danny Tarkanian for US Senate! "

In 2004,Tarkanian ran for the Nevada Senate and lost the general election.

In 2006, he won the Repblican nomination for Nevada Secretary of State, but lost in the general election.

Danny Tarkanian has no Republican Party political history other than self promoted losing campaigns.

He has no history in the party.

His dad was a somewhat noted basketball coach at UNLV after being fired in California for NCAA recruiting violations. Danny Tarkanian was his father's assistant coach at Fresno State after his father was run out of UNLV.

“Danny Tarkanian has no Republican Party political history...”

“He has no history in the party.”

I assume these are reasons to vote FOR Tarkanian.

Close your eyes and imagine Rush Limbaugh saying the exact same things Harry Reid admits saying.

Now, open your eyes and see that Rush Limbaugh would be ruined financially, personally and professionally. The death threats would be never ending and every newscast would lead with the story for months on end.

I love that Republicans reach across the aisle to lying scumbags like Reid and his ilk, don’t you?

"I assume these are reasons to vote FOR Tarkanian."

The vast majority of conservatives have worked for and voted Republican.

Danny Tarkanian has no history of being a conservative.

He is a lawyer who gives his name/lawyer status to penny stocks who want to register in the state.

He formed a real estate company in name only.

Danny Tarkanian lives off his father's name.

I wouldn't doubt if he runs for office so he can live off the contributions.

It's front page in The London Telegraph this morning.

Why doesn’t reid apologize for everything he has ever said? by the way, he is light-skinned and has no discernible negro dialect.

Harry Reid should know better. Actually, the “dialect” he referred to is “Ebonics” and that would have been the politically correct way of describing it. Ebonics is also unique in it’s basic grammatical form. It’s really a separate language all their own, which is exactly what they prefer.

“Of course you know we’re not supposed to say “colored” these days...”

Try “coloured” rather than “colored”...It’s fancier and suggests that the writer/speaker is fairly cultured.

How one might make that distinction when speaking, I have no idea!

Maybe Harry could come out with one of these statements on the issue.

Ironically, it was barry hussein obama in 2002 who was calling for the Republican party to oust Lott back when he had the audacity to wish Strom Thurmond a happy 100th birthday.

The same obama who referred to his own grandmother as a "typical white person" to the sounds of crickets in the media.

What is not being said is that Reid spoke the truth.

Obama was an “acceptable” black. He is nothing more than a token for all of those ‘elightened’ whites who finally get a chance to prove “some of their best friends are black.”

Harry exposed his own racism to the world. Normal blacks need not apply for President.
Walk like a white
Talk like a white
Dress like a white.

"Obama, in his own book, said he often talks/acts white as to not scare away white folk."

Oh, yeah, THAT'S not racist!? Does that mean I can get away with acting and talking "black" (however THAT is achieved) so as not to scare off black folk!?
