Obama takes aim at government overspending (Contractors and government contracts cut back proposed)

WASHINGTON (AFP) – President Barack Obama on Monday touted a plan to cut back on wasteful spending on federal government contractors, a plan he said is on track to save 40 billion dollars per year by 2011.

"Between 2002 and 2008, the amount spent on government contracts more than doubled. The amount spent on no-bid, non-competitive contracts jumped by 129 percent. This is an inexcusable waste of money," Obama said.

Shortly after taking office in January, Obama set a goal for federal agencies to save up to 40 billion dollars per year in contracting costs by 2011.

Since then, "24 departments have identified more than 19 billion dollars in savings for this year alone," he said.

Union payback, plain and simple.

From a post of mine on the 18th of Dec:

I first heard about "in-sourcing" being done by the USAF a few days ago. Seems the USAF is taking jobs that are currently being done by a contractor and making them civilian positions. They are aggressively recruiting people away from the contractors in a manner that has been described as unethical at best. A very well-known local contractor that I am aquainted with recently lost over 100 employees in this manner within a very short period of time. In a recent speech, Gates revealed he is converting 11,000 contractors and hiring an additional 9,000 government acquisition professionals by 2015 – beginning with 4,100 in FY10.

Sure, this will save some money in the long run, but their attempts to put everyone on the goverment payroll...and subsequently in the union...are quite disconcerting, even professionals in the procurement field are stating they need to slow down and proceed with caution. Stan Soloway, CEO of the Professional Services Council stated that "Cost performance,[and] cost analysis evaluation [is]lacking" and "without appropriate analytical rigor and discipline, it could become an exorbitantly expensive undertaking that does nothing to improve the performance of government and has an unfair and undesirable effect on scores of companies and thousands of taxpayers who work for them". Public sector unions, on the other hand, are elated, as this is payback for their support of Obama.

Next on their agenda:

The Domestic Partnership Benefits and Obligations Act of 2009

The bill provides that a federal employee and his or her domestic partner be entitled to benefits available to a married federal employee and his or her spouse. Surprisingly, it was sponsored by Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Ranking Member Susan Collins (R-ME). Lieberman is a Dem, so it is expected with him, but there is no excuse for Collins.

So...not only are they going to convert jobs to the public sector and unionize those folks, they are going to expand benefits to "partners". So much for the cost savings they are trying to tout.

The American military must be disarmed.

This is the means to do so.

The Communist in Chief is handing us on a platter to our enemies foreign and domestic, of which he is the most dangerous.

So America, this is it.

The government will not protect you, the GOP will not protect you, and the local tax assessor won't protect you.

You are cattle to be fed and fed upon.

Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

“The first thing he should do is reduce the Federal workforce (I use the term “work” loosely) by 20% - and that would be just a start.”

Actually this ploy to reduce the number of contactors is part of a plan that has been in place since last summer. The Obama administration has been working overtime on a plan to convert contractor positions to Civil service, i.e., government employees... All in all, civil servants are more likely to be more beholden voters and more likely to be of assistance in forming the perpetual government.

This “privatization” and contracting goes straight to VP Al Gore and his “A-76” project. I guess the critics were right after all...

However, he won't touch these to the extent it would adversely affect minority-owned or women-owned businesses. Watch.

He will save $40 billion by 2011.

I think that the $40 billion has already been spent in the form of new government positions (Czars and the growth of gov't related jobs), and this is how they plan to pay for it.

Since these Czar positions are not really governmental ones, why does the government(us) have to pay their salaries?
