Would you 'send a gun to defend a British home'?
National Gun Rights Examiner ^ | December 2, 2009 | David Codrea

The December 1959 issue of GUNS Magazine is now online, and it tells us the story behind the poster in the feature article "Guns in our bundles for Britain," by William B. Edwards. Edwards comprised a fascinating account of the effort to change that. And he gave us some interesting insights on the dangers of registration:

I was told by a leading London gun dealer that selected personnel were called secretly to the War Office in Whitehall, given individual keys to lorries full of Bren guns, grenades and ammunition, and told to "take the bloody stuff and bury it-we don't want records and we don't want to be able to be forced to tell where it is-and use it for resistance in the invasion."

Sadly, outrageously, we learn that when the danger had passed, government trust in the people went away, and the people for the most part, obeyed in the "cleansing of firearms."

Thus today's sorry state of affairs. This is one hell of an historic account, and you won't find it anywhere else. Knowing it, how many American gun owners would be inclined to answer a similar call for help today? Take the poll and give us an idea:

After the stories began to leak out about the dumping at sea there was a lot of disgust from locals who never had their firearms returned.

Thanks for the information, perhaps the numbers can be found.

As easy as it would be for me to say, “Hell no”, I have friends in England. They are fine folk, they are conservative (not the same thing as an American conservative, but not lefties), and I would defend them are help to defend them if asked.

I have a great deal of respect for the English prior to 1947.

Great One!

In all my years as a pro-gunner I have never seen that photo.

It is very reminiscent of the JPFO's Hitler All in favor of "Gun Control" raise your right hand poster.

Thanks for posting the Bolshevik 1919 poster. Have it saved to My Pictures.

Some years back, in one of the American Rifleman issues, there was an article about some guy's dad who sent his favorite rifle over to the Brits. Around 1946-47, he got it back in the same condition, and well oiled. A rarity perhaps.

I wouldn’t waste a good gun on the Brits. They have lost their way and their Government has given up the fine principles they used to live by.

And, we are headed in the same direction, unless we wake up.

Maybe we need to figure out which country is freer than we are and ask them for some guns. Czech Republic? Singapore?

“I wouldn’t waste a good gun on the Brits. They have lost their way and their Government has given up the fine principles they used to live by.”

Their “government” just fully surrendered their sovereignty. The United Kingdom is now an dependent vassal state of Brussels. They’ve finally been conquered.
