Second Stimulus? Dems Promise Jobs Bill

But many of the ideas on the table so far are extensions of last February's $787 billion economic stimulus package -- such as unemployment benefits and subsidies to help the jobless pay for health insurance. They maintain the social safety net for the 15.7 million Americans out of work but they don't directly create new jobs.

"I wouldn't characterize it as a second stimulus," House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Tuesday. "I don't want to be as broad as that, I want it to be very targeted on jobs."

House Democrats debated ways to address job creation at a caucus meeting Monday night, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has promised colleagues the chamber would take up a jobs measure after it completes its health care overhaul bill. That makes it unlikely to pass into law this year.

Job-creating ideas include additional help for small business, more road and bridge spending, and extending business tax breaks slated to expire at the end of the year, according to spokespersons for Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina.

On Thursday, the House is scheduled to again approve pay-as-you-go legislation requiring Congress to offset new tax cuts or spending initiatives with spending cuts or new revenues elsewhere.

"Americans are asking, 'Where are the jobs?' But all they are getting from out-of-touch Washington Democrats is more spending and more debt piled on our kids and grandkids," said House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio. "Instead of doubling down with more spending and borrowing, the American people want fiscally responsible solutions to get the economy back on track."

Monday's meeting of House Democrats came in response to protests from many members that the party wasn't doing enough to create jobs.

The Macro Economically Illiterate Party once again going to 'targeted' measures. Democratic Party lacks intelligence and scope to see American need broad based low tax rates so everyone who wants a job, a better job, has opportunity.

Let me tell you Democratics, the only way you are going to get your Macro Economics right is 1. to get rid of your House Speaker, because she thinks her Stimulus is great, and it's not, reality check. 2. Prepare to over-ride the expected Presidential Veto, that garbage he signed before, he wants more of.

An intelligent 'jobs' bill needs to be passed ASAP, not next year, see Conservative Republicans. You Democratics have ruined enough lives with your biased political legislation. In fact, you should go visit the poor everyday, then you might understand the urgency and scope of helping all Americans.

It seems like the Democrats realized the American public don't care for what they're doing, but since the opinion of the little people doesn't matter to them much, all that it means is they have less time to dismantle all that has come before now. So in record time, since the off-year elections and Obama's sagging polls, they've decided to put the Bush Administration on trial, let the terrorists have the world's biggest microphone to air their propaganda, and are forcing through a government takeover of even more of the economy.

They've just decided to spend it all before they're shoved out the door.

they know exactly what they have to do to create jobs....but they believe getting their agenda passed is more important, so they are willing to sacrifice all of us to ensure their re-election and passage of nanny government legislation.

The ONLY way to creat jobs: STOP pursuing legislation that will kill small business - STOP healthcare debate right now, STOP cap n’tax debate right now, STOP amnesty talks right now. Who in their right mind would hire/expand with the atmosphere of increased taxes on small business??????

They are not morons - they are the ‘cut off your nose to spite your face’ party.

Just imagine what the job situation might be if the "stimulus" had taken the form of $1T cut in business taxes.

Would have cost the same, strengthened US companies, and kept people in their jobs, thereby generating federal revenue through payroll taxes.

Many are, they followed the devious, and spouted the talking points, and now can’t back it up.

they know they don’t need to back it up. The ‘public’ are the morons, those in power just have to keep them distracted past the next commercial.

I live in an area where everyone votes democrat because they are union people - yet the union jobs left here a decade ago - there is no disconnect with the people who have been raised drinking the koolaid - we can only hope to live longer.....though with the new healthcare :(

The government can instantly create jobs for all by doing one simple thing.

That is to completely get government out of all aspects of private and personal enterprise.

No! No! No! Our Marxist leader will eventually replace all mechanized machinery with human power and call that job creation.

Stuart Varney on Fox News this morning says they plan to use what’s left of the TARP money (including repaid from TARP recipients) to pay for this “jobs” bill. I would like to say say I’m shocked but....

The stimulus was threefold:

Pay off those who backed Obama

Buy the 2010 elections

Steal billions for themselves, which they have so far, gotten away with.

Just a few short days ago they said they were going to use this to pay down the debt which didn’t make any sense being that it is part of the debt I wonder if he mentioned this in China?

The TARP was supposed to be for the banks, but GWB should have foreseen that whatever was left in 2009 could be used as Oba Mao’s political slush fund.

Oba Mao’s “position” depends on the audience. A few contradictions don’t seem to bother him.
