Obama, Reid Will Use Nuclear Option to Pass Healthcare
newsmax.com ^ | Nov. 11, 2009 | John LeBoutillier

It has not been reported yet, but look for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to follow President Barack Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s lead and go to any length – even to alter Senate rules – to pass the healthcare reform bill with the public option included.

This will happen because the Democrats – led by Obama – feel they absolutely must pass this bill with the public option included.

They believe that a failure to pass it will mean a failed, one–term presidency and the loss of Congress.

Ironically, passing it may result in exactly what they dread.

They are misreading the 1994 congressional debacle after the failure of Hillarycare. And former President Bill Clinton is helping them misread what happened back then. He just went to the Senate to urge them to pass this bill.

Their belief is that the failure to pass any bill is what cost them control of Congress. So they are determined to pass a bill this time – no matter the political cost to get it passed.

(Their misreading of history is typical of liberals. They didn’t lose Congress because of no healthcare bill; they lost it because they were seen as too entrenched, too corrupt and too arrogant. The same thing happened in 2006 and 2008 to GOP control of Congress.)

Let us examine what has already happened in the past week:

In the House, Pelosi and the left did something that shows us just how desperately they want to pass this public option: they abandoned one of the left’s foundation principles – government funding of abortions for poor women.

Yet the liberals were willing to sacrifice that basic tenet of liberalism in order to pass this healthcare bill.

What does that tell us?

Clinton is playing Obama for a fool.
Once the Dems lose Congress, Hillary will run in 2012 and cast herself as the sensible moderate.
This is Clinton's last gasp at taking over control of the Democratic Party again.

It tells us that they plan to put it back in at some later
date, probably in the middle of the night.

So if Reid pushes for the nuclear option and this travesty is signed into law, what are the chances of its Constitutionality being challenged, and overturned by the USSC?

Worse than that, they are willing to cede control of congress to get it passed. They know the Republicans lack the cojones to undo it and that they can eventually regain the congressional majority.

The use of a so-called "nuclear option" is outside of the court's purview. It just isn't a constitutional question. Instead, it's a question of whether the Senate followed its own rules -- something only the Senate is competent to decide.

I can’t believe that ANY dim senator believed Bubba when he said that FAILURE to pass healthcare would cost them their seats.

Even if they don’t believe that PASSING healthcare is more likely to cost them their seats, they should know that the Clintons want BO to fail and fail big.

I don’t think Reid can get enough Dems to support the nuclear option.

They have it backwards, if they pass this bill they will all be voted out and Obama will be a one term President.

I’m not talking about the Constitutionality of Senate rules, I’m talking about the whole damn bill!

It would appear that might be the only other thing we can do.

Interesting prediction.

One thing in its favor...

...the Dems (e.g. Marxists and progressives) do one thing well...

They UNDERMINE.

And, when they are not undermining their country, their values, their military, or their political opponents (their true enemies), they are undermining...

THEMSELVES.

They are good at it, and they do fear each other.

.

what are the chances of its Constitutionality being challenged

Very high.

and overturned by the USSC?

Almost zero.
