A 70-year-old woman who is in town for the All-American Quarter Horse Congress shot and killed a would-be robber last night at a North Side motel, police said.
The shooting occurred about 9:15 p.m. at the Continent Inn, said Columbus Police Sgt. Isaac Bridges. The motel, at 6225 Zumstein Dr., is located at The Continent shopping center, off Rt. 161 near I-71.
Sgt. Eric Pilya of the homicide squad said the woman was in a motel room with four or five others and they'd cracked open the door to get fresh air.
Pilya said a man barged into the room, demanding money from those inside.
Police said the woman grabbed a gun that she had in the room and shot the man, who staggered into the parking lot of the motel and died. His name wasn't released late last night, pending notification of family.
The woman's name also wasn't released. No charges had been filed. Pilya said it's likely that the case will be presented to a Franklin County grand jury to see whether the woman should be charged.
Meena Patel, a clerk at the Continent Inn, said the shooting occurred in Room 111, which was booked to a man and woman.
Heather and Kevin Kinsley were staying at the Extended StayAmerica Hotel next door. They have returned to Columbus after moving out of state and said they're surprised at the problems they've seen in that area.
"This whole area is not what it used to be," Mrs. Kinsley said. They said they've heard gunshots regularly and there have been a lot of cars broken into.
The annual All-American Quarter Horse Congress is in its third week at the state fairgrounds and ends Sunday. It is the world's largest single-breed horse show and attracts more than 600,000 people to Columbus each year.
Perp picked on the wrong cowgirl(s). Go granny go! Another happy ending.
I assume she is not from Ohio, but from out of state??? Anybody from Ohio know what her "gun rights" status under Ohio law is???
Sounds like a plan to set up the "worst bad guys" for elimination. Crack the door and sit there waiting! Kind'a like "Bait Car" sets up auto thieves.
From the story, it looks like she had the weapon in her room. Ohio doesn’t have gun registration, so the only ways she could get in trouble over “gun rights” would be (1) if the hotel had a “no guns” sign up (these signs have the force of law in Ohio, but apparently the hotel didn’t have one) or (2) if she were carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Ohio has reciprocity on CCW permits with a number of states, so she may have had a permit from a state that reciprocates with Ohio.
Good.
You just gotta love it:)
First thing that came to my mind was the recent post about the archer that shot a buck with an arrow while the buck was at a feeding trough. record points on the rack I hear, what is paramount is always make sure you use the right bait!
Way to go granny!
Don’t mess with a horse luvin woman!
Candygram.

Let me guess. Diversity and Democrats.

Shooting dangerous predators over bait is a practice going back far into history. Many a man eater was shot over a staked out goat or cow.
Shooting bear over bait is standard procedure in Maine.
Perhaps Granny should write an article on Reduction Of Urban Predator Populations.
The Amish are coming....The Amish are coming....looks like a good shooting to me!
She didn’t kill the intruder, the GUN killed the intruder...she’s not a bad person.
I'm not a hunter but is this considered "sporting"?
Dont mess with a horse luvin woman!’
I have hauled my horses all over the western part of the USA.
I always travel with a gun on long trips. IF anything happens to one of my horses- vehicle accident/fall/other, where the horse has to be put down, I am not waiting for a dozen different agencies to decide who has the authority to put down my suffering horse.
I witnessed such a problem about 30 years ago, when a car hit a horse in So Calif, and it was gory and ugly. Police would not shoot the horse, and animal control was ‘gone for the day & we are trying to get an animal control officer to come”. Meanwhile, the horse stood on 3 legs trying to bleed to death. It was beyond awful.
No arm chair QBs can post anything about range time or caliber choice.
The perfect banglist story.
