The Republicans had put Webster among a trio of their best-bet candidates to retake the seat Grayson won last year by ousting four-term incumbent Ric Keller. But two other possible candidates — Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty and state Rep. Stephen Precourt, R-Orlando — both opted out last week.
That's left a pair of grass-roots Tea Party activists, Patricia Sullivan of Eustis and Dan Fanelli of Orlando, as the only two candidates to formally file for a Grayson challenge so far.
However, South Florida developer and recent Orlando transplant Armando Gutierrez Jr. says he filed to run on Friday, and restaurant-supply business owner Jerry Pierce plans to do the same thing this week. Orlando affordable-housing developer Barry Watson also said he's considering a run.
