Just a thought to turn everyone’s stomach. A possible scenario.
—Polanski is extradited back to California.
—The victim (now adult) doesn’t wish to relive the crime and refuses to testify.
—Having found a lenient California judge, Polanski gets a few months in jail at most.
—After serving time, he can then return to the U.S. at will because he is no longer a fugitive.
—He is treated as a hero in Hollywood and the rest of the media quickly comes around to this point of view.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but that’s nightmarish to me. Don’t doubt it, either. It can happen.
Why would the victim have to testify again? He already pleaded guilty!
He pled guilty. No trial necessary.
Trial is over....there will only be a sentencing...oh, there may be a trial for jumping bail...
It probably will happen. But hopefully less and less people will buy hollywood supporters’ projects and films. They are becoming a small self congratulatory circle.
Probably won't happen. His case has become a cause celebre in Europe.I'll wager that he's never returned.
Having found a lenient California judge, Polanski gets a few months in jail at most.
In the slim chance of him actually being extradited it doesn't matter.*He plead guilty*.
After serving time, he can then return to the U.S. at will because he is no longer a fugitive.
In the *highly* unlikely even that he's returned here and serves time, the INS has full authority to deport him and then to ban him as an "undesirable alien".But,admittedly, that won't happen under any RAT administration.
He is treated as a hero in Hollywood and the rest of the media quickly comes around to this point of view.
That's already happened. He's loved by the "beautiful people" of this country as well as by the limp-wristed cowards of Europe.
Remember, he's already plead guilty and fled the jurisdiction of the tribunal before he was sentenced. There's no reason that the victim would have to testify - hence the purpose of the plea in the first place.
Also, he's looking at a felonious failure to appear from 1977 - the statute of limitation has not run out on that charge and it doesn't require the victim to testify. Long story short, he's going to see some real jail-time if he's returned to the US. And yes, I know about the case's problems and I say to them, "don't believe everything you see on HBO."
“He is treated as a hero in Hollywood...”
.
—Sodomizing 13-year old girls will be legalized in Hollywood.
I saw on the news this morning Woopi’s comments were something like it really wasn't rape.....Joy Baher said rape is rape.....maybe the first time I have ever agreed with Joy
She doesn't have to. He plead guilty.
There is no testifying to be done. The trial is over because he plead guilty. And, not only will he have to do time because of the crime, but he should be brought up on flight charges as well.
Even in CA, he will not go free.
Add to that Newsweek running a cover story “So What’s So Bad About Statutory Rape?” (I just saw their “Is Your Baby Racist” and “The Case for Killing Grandma” covers; I’m done with Newsweek).
