“This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

Do me a favor... google you tube for ted kennedy and Justice Bork... and we all know that the media declared fat ted the murdering, adulterer and Rooskie sellout the greatest STATESMAN of our lifetime... and please watch ted kennedy interview Justice Bork and get back to me about your “expected” behavior. Then watch ted kennedy make Mrs. Justice Roberts cry as ted attacks her husband and his credibility. Then please by all means, continue by reviewing how Justice Clarence Thomas was crucified by every single dim that interviewed him... and please tell me how their “expected” behavior stacks up to your requirements.

It’s not about decorum per se. It’s about persuasion.

This speech, this debate that is taking place, is not about people like you and me and Joe Wilson, or people like DU or KOS or Obama. We already have our minds made up.

This debate is about persuading the people who don’t yet know which side they’re on.

And you’re simply not going to persuade those people by ranting and being out of control. That makes you look weak. People are attracted to strength, and confidence. A man in control of himself looks strong and confident, a man out of control looks like a loser.

I have no problem with what he said, but it was not the place and time to do it.

"What the heck happened?"

When Barack Hussien Obama said that illegals would not get medical coverage, Wilson yelled out (I believe it was) LIAR.

I didn’t catch the post game, but that look on Nanners face when he said it LOUD was priceless. She kept looking as Obama went on. She tried to scowl I think.

Knee jerk outburst ... knee jerk apology ... not surprised. Shame. Thought he had a righteous anger there.

Some very serious rules of decorum govern visits by the President to the Congress. Has to do with respect for the Constitution and the separation of powers.

You may not agree with it, but there it is. You don't like the Constitution, go somewhere else where they do it different ~ maybe South Korea ~ they do some beatdowns in Parliament!

Not a problem.

Mission already accomplished.

Obama speech completely derailed.

POINT: WILSON!

 Absolutely!

In Washington, a gaffe is when someone accidentally tells the truth.

And Wilson made a huge gaffe.

A voice of reason. His apology for civility after the fact is appropriate. I challenge FReepers who disagree to find the last time a Representative made such a move during a nationally televised address to Congress.

2006 State of the Union. And it was a hell of a lot more than just ONE representative, or one comment.

The apology was for “lack of civility”.

The last time American politics in Congress was this vitriolic -- the decade of the 1850's -- the "lack of civility" was best represented by South Carolina Congressman Preston Brooks entering the Senate chamber and beating Massachusetts Senator Sumner with his cane.

Calling the president a liar is small potatoes compared to that.

It was planned long in advance. More like the pre-Civil War Congress ~ you just never know what’s going to happen next.

I agree. Everyone always screams for an apology. Fine, he gave it. Now let’s get back to the issue....Obama did lie.

...Joe...don't apologize!

Aw, c'mon. Joe Wilson was out of bounds by ignoring protocol in this situation. Simply put, without good manners we have no civil society.

I suggest Joe invite the president to his house for a couple of beers and some straight talk. In that setting he can tell Obama he's full of crap.

What the hell, two guys talking politics without the formalities.

No, we’re stuck to living a higher standard because we have a higher standard. For that I am glad.

The people Joe Wilson should apologize to is us. Because when he lost control it hurt our side of the debate. I don’t give a damn that he hurt the feeling of BO or anybody on their side. It’s the fact he hurt our position in this debate that ticks me off.

The members of Congress should not heckle and cat call much less yell at the President. Can you imagine the outrage if someone had done that to GWB? ON the other hand he should have grabbed the first mic after the speech and called the President a bold faced liar.

Flame on
