Jesus the socialist?
One News Now ^ | 9/1/2009 | Peter Heck

At a recent Congressional town hall meeting I attended, I was astounded by the positions being taken by the outnumbered group of advocates for socializing American medicine.

The Founding Fathers – a group whose distrust and skepticism about the size and scope of the national government is epic – were surely doing back flips in their graves as seemingly intelligent Americans willfully stood up and championed the notion of handing over their healthcare to bureaucrats in Washington. Regardless of your political leanings, it was a chilling sight to see a group of citizens standing and applauding the loss of their own freedom.

But more bizarre than that was a sign that had been placed on a pro-ObamaCare table near the front of the stage. It simply read: "Jesus would vote yes."

-snip-

A listener to my radio show suggested to me that perhaps "Jesus" -- pronounced "Hay-Soos" in Spanish -- was referring to an illegal immigrant who would undoubtedly vote in favor of a plan guaranteed to further saddle American taxpayers with the burden of paying for those unwilling to obey the law.

-snip-

There are a couple initial observations that need to be made before we address the core, "Jesus as socialist" madness. First, for a movement so petrified by any perceived confluence of faith and politics, the left has kicked the Bible-banging into high gear recently.

Liberal talker Ed Schultz called socializing healthcare a "moral obligation" ...

-snip-

But even President Obama got into the act. Convening a group of ministers on a conference call, the president told them that his healthcare plans accomplish the "core moral and ethical obligation that we look out for one another...that I am my brother's keeper, my sister's keeper."

"Jesus would vote yes."

How disgusting to Jesus Christ and how repulsive to us! Socialism/Communism is a evil disease perpetrated by satan and the evil Democrat Party.

These rats blaspheme.

They are overplaying this. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said “What Would Scooby Doo”.

These people, most of whom reject Jesus Christ, His Gospel, His atonement, and the commandments (yes, commandments) He gave.

Yet, they deceitfully and disengenuously, try and drag Him into the conversation to make their political points.

Well, Jesus DID NOT heal everyone. Jesus DID NOT make healing a political issue. He did the will of His Father and healed those He was moved to heal for His reasons and as a testimony to all of us of who He is.

These types of attempts sicken me. They are like Saducees and Pharisees in Christ's time. Sophistry to try and bend public opinion.

The slumbering giant has stirred, and he is waking up hopping mad.

My comment is in my tagline, inspired by this very subject.

Good answer. At Congressman Lungren’s R-CA townhall meeting, something said “what would Jesus think” and Lungren’s reply was “what would Jesus think about abortion”

Would you vote for teddycare for a Scooby Snack? How about TWO Scooby Snacks? (Sadly, all they’re offering is a balony sandwich).

Scripture is very clear that Jesus was not a socialist. Whenever this topic comes up just remind the leftist that Jesus called Matthew away from being a tax collector.

What socialist ever born would have done that?

Jesus;

“For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

“For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.”

“And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give [it] to him that hath ten pounds.
(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)
For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.”

You’re too kind. I adapted a recent comment by David Horowitz, who blogged on the concept, referring to others who have expressed this notion.

Some say that free-marketers are “greedy,” but being eager to create more stuff for your self is “industry.” Wanting to take others’ stuff is “greed.”

Our Lord acknowledged that we are to pay our taxes — but nowhere in scripture does Our Lord advocated government handouts.

The message of the New Testament is clear — charity is for each individual to accomplish and for each church to assist.

The lefties never get tired of telling the same lies over and over — perhaps their lord is the father of lies?

So, I believe that the tax tables should be reversed. Those who make the least should be taxed the most in order to light a fire under their backsides to they'll work harder!

Those who need assistance should work cleaning up the streets and alleys which they no doubt have had a hand in littering.

There. That'll fix 'em.

Our Lord acknowledged that we are to pay our taxes...The sin occurs when the government spends this money for abortions in Africa and the USA.

It was not Jesus, but Brian who was adopted as socialist messiah by the Judean Peoples’ Front, IIRC.

Or was it the People’s Front of Judea?

In any event, not Jesus H.

Socialism is based on breaking three of the Ten Commandments: lies, coveting and theft.

Further, socialism attempts to seduce us with a scheme to which no Christian can agree, or indeed has the authority to agree to: that we each have a right to live at the expense of another person if only we would allow them the right to live at our expense.

This bargain springs from values that are antithetical to Christian ones.

For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living. (2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 ESV)

*

Infiltrate church institutions.
*

Adapt the Communist social campaign to America’s unique beliefs, wants, and values.
*

Concentrate on seminaries where each new convert learns to influence thousands.
*

Divert the heart and purposes of the Church from the spiritual to the material.
*

Demonstrate tolerance toward beliefs and values that clash with God’s Words.
