GOP Pushes Health 'Bill of Rights'
Washington Post ^ | 8/25/09 | Ben Pershing

Posted on 08/25/2009 9:46:16 AM PDT by truthandlife

Republicans launched their latest salvo against President Obama's health-care reform plans today, repackaging their existing criticisms of his proposals as a new "Health Care Bill of Rights for Seniors" that immediately drew return fire from Democrats.

Having seized on the idea that Obama's reform plans represent a "risky experiment," Republicans have lately intensified their health-care message toward the elderly. The Republican National Committee's "bill of rights" includes calls to "protect Medicare," "prohibit efforts to ration health care based on age" and "ensure seniors can keep their current coverage." Taken together, the list does not represent an actual reform proposal -- congressional GOP leaders have so far failed to introduce a plan of their own -- but rather a series of things Republicans believe reform should not do.

Holy crap! This ‘plan’ is a political document that guarantees seniors tax payer funded entitlements. If you ever needed a call to dump the dollar this is it. A long term disaster. Dont expect to have a military in 20 years.

I do like it's cynical nature, as a political weapon to drive dems nuts.

I for one am quite tired of these various "Fill In The Blank" Bill of Rights that are floated around.

They instill in the uneducated the idea that "rights" flow from the goobermint, when they most certainly do not. They also instill the idea that a "right" can be manufactured that imposes a duty upon another to "provide" it, which is the precise OPPOSITE of a right.

Oh lordy, yet another bunch of idiots who fail to understand the concept, the difference between rights and needs, in that medical care, treatment, etc., is a need the same as shelter and clothing, lower on the necessary-rung from water and food.

Nothing on that page looks like a right to me at all -- this is nothing more than political baloney. It is not an alternative at all, the ignorance of the people who responded on that site is right in line with the ignorance being expounded all over the place. Sheesh.

Since the Republicans are signing on to no cuts in Medicare funding or services and we have a looming Medicare funding crisis, what is their plan to pay for these rights - higher taxes or more debt?

“The GOP has to STOP COMPROMISING.

Um, the Govt already controls over half of healthcare spending.

This battle is over the other half.

Perhaps it is just a fake out with that purpose in mind. That is what I would like to believe if the GOP had not gone so damned liberal on us.
