President Obama said that police in Cambridge, Massachusetts, "acted stupidly" in arresting a prominent black Harvard professor last week after a confrontation at the man's home. "I don't know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played," Obama said Wednesday night while taking questions after a White House news conference. Cambridge authorities dropped disorderly conduct charges against Henry Louis Gates Jr. on Tuesday. Obama defended Gates on Wednesday night, while admitting that he may be "a little biased," because Gates is a friend.

Police officers go out and know that each time they go out they could end up shot. They are in a high wire psychologically and emotionally and frankly that’s why they are supposed to be deferred to.
Show me your papers! He wasn't in public and that's not how it happened. Gates did provide ID. What threw the cop over the edge was having his honor challenged in front of others. That is not an arrestable offense. The cop should be fired.
Is there a law on the books that requires us to kiss ass when the police tell us to? "Supposed to" and "must" are different things. No trip to jail was warranted in this case. Freedom of speech includes insulting a policeman in front of others and is not an arrestable offense in a free country.

But common sense should tell you that if you don’t want to spend the night in jail keep your mouth shut!
I believe Zero took the BLACK professor’s side based SOLEY on RACE. Therefore, I believe Zero is a RACIST.
I agree with that strategy, however am thankful for those willing to pay the price to keep freedom free. Common sense should have also told the cop to back off. He will probably lose his job over his fleeting display of power but might find work in the new jack bootery that's coming.

But that won’t cut it when I call my employer from jail the next morning and tell them I’m just paying the price to keep freedom free. He’s going to say good job!.... go ahead and keep doing it.

Other than follow the officer as he was leaving, and continuing to rant and rave (apparently at the top of his lungs) outside the house when the officer in question was leaving. In front of a crowd. Two centuries of American jurisprudence contradict your take on the matter.
