Gov. Charlie Crist says he opposes Sonia Sotomayor (Charlie knew it was too late!)

After avoiding the question for weeks, Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running for the Senate, said he opposes the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

Gov. Charlie Crist, whose embrace of President Barack Obama's stimulus plan cost him support among some conservative Republicans, echoed their objections to Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor in a statement Tuesday.

Crist had brushed off questions about Sotomayor's nomination for weeks, drawing criticism from his opponents in the U.S. Senate race. Sen. Mel Martinez, the Republican whose retirement in 2010 opened the door for Crist, said last week that he supports Sotomayor.

Without warning, Crist took a stand on her nomination on a day when he had no public appearances scheduled. ``I have strong concerns that Judge Sotomayor would not strictly and objectively construe the Constitution and lacks respect for the fundamental right to keep and bear arms,'' Crist said.

Crist is far ahead in polls and fundraising, but Republican rival Marco Rubio has found scattered support among party activists who lean conservative.

``I'm happy Crist took that position on Sotomayor, and I think the campaign could be influencing him in that direction,'' said Republican consultant Dennis Baxley, the former head of the Christian Coalition of Florida.

Luis De Rosa, president of the South Florida Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce, said Crist's position would hurt him among Hispanic voters eager to see their community's first Supreme Court justice.

``We're very, very disappointed,'' said De Rosa, who supported Crist's 2006 gubernatorial campaign.

I’ll never forgive Crispy Crist for handing the nomination to JMac on a silver platter.

Charlie Crist, on stage with Obama begging for the stimulus.

Charlie Crist now tells us the stimulus is “working.”

Kendrick Meek for Senate if Crist wins the primary. What’s the difference? At least we won’t feel betrayed.

If Charlie had a vote that counted, there is NO WAY he would vote against her....

If Crist were in the Senate are we to really believe he would vote against Sotomayor? Doesn’t sound plausible.

This position would have credibility except for the fact that Crist appointed a LEFTIST TO THE FLORIDA SUPREME COURT when more qualified conservatives were worthy.

Crist must go!

He would vote for Sotomayor, the stimulus, cap and trade and socialized health care.

The he would insist other Republicans vote for it, otherwise they’ll lose the next election.

Crist had to see which way the wind was blowing. You can bet that he weighed every single vote, and did not base his decision on principle!

Charlie has no principles!

He possesses true asshat characteristics and is a lousy governor.

I put this RINO in the same category as Schwartzeneger...useful to our enemies.

His true colors were exposed when he took several billion dollars that Florida couldn't afford and purchased useless land from the sugar company to 'save the Everglades.'

Then he appointed a leftist loon to the Florida Supreme Court, thereby stabbing those that supported his goobernorship in the back.
