He was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge after police said he "exhibited loud and tumultuous behavior." He was released later that day on his own recognizance. An arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 26.

Gates, 58, also refused to speak publicly Monday, referring calls to Ogletree.

"He was shocked to find himself being questioned and shocked that the conversation continued after he showed his identification," Ogletree said.

And if there was a commotion of some sort in the home due to an intruder, and police chose not to investigate, there would likewise have been accusations of racism. These “victims” never fail to play the card out of turn.

Bullshit. Heard the real story on the radio (WTTK). He was spotted trying to pry-open his front door. Police asked for ID and he refused and went into an incoherent anti-white rant. He was acting wild and they took him into custody. Now he’s crying “racism.” The PERFECT Harvard professor!

This black pig’s life’s work and ridiculous attitude is the only reason I have any negative thoughts of black folks.

“I am a professional race hustler, dammit! You will be destroyed after I am done with you, whitey.”

Now that we have our first affirmative action prez0dint, it is all the more clear how harmful this mentality is.

It’s nothing but race, race, race now in the US. The city camper incident at the NJ country club was a hugely trumped up charge and, last I heard, the race-hustling lawyer wants the entire board of the club to resign and he wants to bankrupt the entire club.

If this keeps up, our first mulatto president is going to preside over a huge setback in race relations as the race-hustling industry is mushrooming. Ordinary Americans are going to get pretty fed up with this.

Gates is director of the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard.

This incident is like free advertising...race noise increases the visibility of his race-based job and might even increase the enthusiasm of students for race-based majors at Harvard.

Gates is, for all intents and purposes, a more refined and well-educated kind of Jackson or Sharpton...but he still makes his living as a race pimp.

Yikes.
Academics come into contact with the same real life that the rest of us live with every day of the year, and they can’t hack it.
I’m still not sure, from the details of this story, just why he was handcuffed, except that it became a personal confrontation between the cop and him, with the cop just trying to do his job, and Gates showing no signs of ‘respect’ for that, but this is EXACTLY the kind of exacerbated tension I expected now that we’ve entered the
MAGICAL AGE OF OBAMA.
Having said all that, Harvard is pretty much going broke, for the first time, I think, in the 370 years of its existence.
And having said that, Henry Louis Gates always impressed me as a very middle of the road, non-militant, and rather
special kind of scholar, decidedly NOT the type to blow up a thing like this into a “issue”.
But like I said, we’re in the age of Obama.

“By the time police arrived, Gates was already inside. Police say he refused to come outside to speak with an officer, who told him he was investigating a report of a break-in.”

Cop knocks on my door, he’ll have to break the window and unlock it from the inside to talk to me. Have heard on Christian radio and read online, from purportedly Christian lawyers, that one should never answer any cop’s questions. Sounds like good advice to me.

"He was shocked to find himself being questioned..."

That was the arresting officer's true offense. How dare he question one so high born and elite as a black Harvard professor? </sarcasm>

"Don't you know who I am!?" had to have left the Perfesser's lips at one point. These people simply detest being questioned by those of lower station. And from a Storm Trooper no less. Heaven forbid.

The good prof. no doubt has visions of sugar plums dancing in his head in the form of a multi-million dollar award for the stigma of being confronted by the police “because of his race”—just like the suits against Denny’s because the patrons who had their feelings hurt didn’t feel they were being waited on promptly enough “because of their race”.

Yeah, there’s racism out there alright. The prof. of this very important field of pseudo-study just needs to look in the mirror.

We have been given the saying, “driving while black”, now we get the saying “doing your job while white.”

You know what? I am not a cop lover, I keep an open mind about these things. Sometimes cops make mistakes, sometimes they are just a**hats, but in this case the cops are totally in the right. If cops came up to me after I had to break into my own house I would have showed ID and explained I lived there.

I am not black though so I guess I wouldn't have anything to be mad about./SAR
