Airlines loved it because they saved fuel by running systems at a low level, causing passengers to breathe recycled air instead of the more fuel intensive replenishment of fresh air.

Plus it made for great back of the plane parties on long intercontinental flights. Lawd, I’ve missed those, along with so much else in our new, improved, healthier and happier America.

I can’t wait for how much happiness is now in store for us.

Somebody, somewhere may be enjoying themselves by engaging in some activity that is not authorized, regulated and allowed by the federal government.

As of today, it appears that we may be taxed to breathe.

As soon as we are not able to drive what we want, eat what we want, smoke what we want, get naked with whomever or whatever we want, I predict a tax on masturbation (the only thing left)

- Healthy Living:Marijuana Causes Cancer, California Regulators Say
Friday, June 19, 2009

SAN FRANCISCO — Marijuana smoke has joined tobacco smoke and hundreds of other chemicals on a list of substances California regulators say cause cancer.

The ruling Friday by the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment likely will force pot shops with 10 or more employees to post warnings. Final guidelines are expected by the time warning requirements take effect in a year.

The listing only applies to marijuana smoke, not the plant itself.

Spokesman Sam Delson says the state agency found marijuana smoke contains 33 of the same harmful chemicals as tobacco smoke.

Delson says the findings came from a review of more than 30 scientific papers.

California’s Proposition 65 requires businesses to warn consumers of chemicals that cause cancer or reproductive harm.

I used to have compassion, but they legislated it and taxed it out of existence.

We each got our own. They are DSE901b 4075 kits which run about $50 p/ kit. (which sounds like a lot but we have saved double that amount back this month)

Catridges:
So far we have used cartridges from around 4 different vendors. There were slight differences in each cartridge design actually. Sometimes in the lip and mostly in the end that sets in the atomizer. They all operated the same though so I’m not so sure that it matters what make of cartridge so long as it says it will work in a 901.

I would note we are filling our own instead of buying pre-filled ones.

Batteries:
We have also tried batteries from 2 different vendors. Each battery was basically the same except for some cosmetic differences.

Atomizers:
Have tried atomizers from 2 different sources as well which were slight different. The changes were in the way the heating element is made it looks like. The ones that worked best for us were the type that have the more pointed heating element vs the flat type in the end. They seem to give you a better draw.

This forum is where we did most of our research:

Hope that helps.

I suppose I should also note the places we bought our stuff:
(all were fine as far as order time/ship/price/quality)

http://www.smokeliberation.com/
Ordered one of the 901kits from here: I think the better one as well as they had the better type of atomizer. Battery seemed to last longer then the puresmoker one as well but that might not be something that really varies by brand but by battery itself. We ordered our replacement atomizers from here to.

Ordered one of the 901kits from here: good kit, works well but as I noted above I think smokeliberation has better atomizers. Got some juice here to: was par with the link belows juice as far as taste but not as far as quality I don’t think.

But the device, which is sold over the Internet and at select mall kiosks, needs to be tested by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before it is deemed safe for general use, Lautenberg wrote in a letter to the FDA on Monday.

Oh, BS!

The real reasons to go after e-cigarettes is twofold. People can "smoke" them in public, causing the nannies to "feel" uncomfortable and, most importantly, e-cigarettes don't generate tobacco tax revenue.

Lautenberg is such a tool.

Thanks so much for the info!

My big concern has been that the FDA has also been cracking down on allowing imports of the cartridges. I don’t want to wind up with a kit and no availability of replacement cartridges.

But if I read you correctly, you said that you refill your own cartridges. How do you do that? What do you refill it with? Nicotine? Flavoring?

"The real reasons to go after e-cigarettes is twofold. People can "smoke" them in public, causing the nannies to "feel" uncomfortable and, most importantly, e-cigarettes don't generate tobacco tax revenue."

Two more reasons:

1. The pharma companies that manufacture nicotine replacement products like Nicotrol, Chnatix, Zyban, don't like the competition.

2. If the FDA flexes its new-found muscles over Cheerios, they certainly aren't going to let something exploitable like "nicotine replacement" get by them without regulating it!

You seem to have quite a bit of information, but I found this site if you’re interested.

Lots of info in the COMMENTS.

After 18 years of smoking and really enjoying it, I quit cold turkey when the lungs hurt. That was over 20 years ago, and since then, I can’t believe I ever smoked.

Good luck to everyone!

That pretty much sums it up. Human inventiveness has kicked Statists’ ass up and down the sidewalk again.

Iranian dictators don’t know how to deal with twitter, YouTube.

This is where my Great Uncle George Orwell went wrong in 1948 when he wrote 1984....he didn’t foresee how the same technology that could be used to oppress people can be used to free them.

http://www.smokeliberation.com/smokejuice.html

Refill / fill them with that type of bulk juice from the links above. Its just the normal liquid they use to make the “pre filled” ones.

I use a syringe to inject it into the cotton that is in the cartridge. Just fill it up till it tops up (like filling a zippo) and thats it. All the blank carts come with caps for them so you can fill up say 2 carts and have them ready to go.

I think when I did the math it was running me .65cents for a blank cartridge and around .25cents a day for the juice for two carts. Add in some shipping cost on the materials and it came out to around 1$ per day for myself and 1$ per day for the wife.Thats not bad considering my 2.5 pack a day alone real cig habit was costing me almost 10$ and the wife added another 6$ onto that. So, 16$ vs 2$. Refilling your own is the way to go.

Just be real careful and don’t stick yourself with the syringe accidentally and inject some. That would be a quick way to bring on a massive heart attack followed shortly by a very painful death I would think. I don’t know exactly how much you would need to cause something like that but I would hazard a guess thats its not much: so be careful is all.

As far as availability, it appears the the bigger sellers are having some issues with getting the actual ecigs and juice. Its nothing steady it seems: but does happen. The smaller sellers are not having much of an issue at all with the import of the juice though - probably because its so small it passes unnoticed. So if you can shop around and find the smaller guys that can keep stock you wouldn’t have an issue of getting the juice or parts needed.

But I can’t imagine that the cartridges would ever cause an issue with import so I wouldn’t worry to much about those. Its just plastic and cotton and wouldn’t really fall into any category that might be regulated like the juice w/ nicotine or even the batteries I would think.
Worse come to worse you can “drip” a drop directly on the atomizer some say and get a real good draw off it. So if availability came at some point later after you had almost kicked the habit entirely - I wouldn’t think it would effect much.

Of course thats all opinion so take it at face value.

Also of interest: I got the wife and I each a case for our ecigs that has an extra spot for a second battery and a second cartridge in the case. Is real handy and I would recommend one if you are going to use the ecig 24/7.

I can’t remember where I bought those but I think they were like 7$. If I remember the place I got them Ill post up the link.

Thanks so much for all your help!

I just ordered a Liberation Mini and some smoke juice that was recommended on that board you posted (it's on sale today only) Still trying to figure out where the Lib Mini is an "801" or "901" so I can find blank cartridges and a syringe -- although they talk about using a dropper rather than syringe.

I think that some of these things I am not going to figure out what works best until I have the e-cig in hand.

I ordered one first so we can see how it all works and whether it is something that husband would be interested in. If it all works out, we'll get another.

In a manner of speaking: yes.

But, its considerably cheaper if one was to look at it from that stand point.

Its also not being punitively taxed at the moment so your not funding monstrosities with the money spent.

But mostly, it gives me my nicotine satisfaction without all the ill side effects of real cigs. Which was starting to show for myself at least so I had to do something.

Its perhaps not ideal, and is a bit more work at the onset: but in the end I feel its justified.
It would all amount to a personal opinion though so Im probably biased with my conclusion.

No problem.

And if you ordered the Liberation Mini from smoke liberation its a 901b4075 I believe; as thats what I got from them when I ordered the kit.

Droppers work ok btw, I think they don’t get it as full though which is why I went to a syringe. I think its because the syringe can fill it up from the bottom up vs the dropper needing to soak in to the bottom. It could just be me though. The dropper would be much safer however.

"Seems like a whole lot of trouble to go through when you could just........smoke."

E-cigs are cheaper, no tar so easier on the lungs, and you can use them almost anywhere, as opposed to cigarettes that are over $50 a carton (most of that tax), contain tar & carcinogens, and are less welcome than lighting up a joint in public these days.

Given that I have only tried e cigs once at the mall for a few minutes and haven't yet received what I just ordered, it is too soon for me to be a real advocate. But it's worth a try -- especially because I don't even smoke in my own house and it was 108 here today. Getting mighty uncomfortable to smoke outside!
