Top aides to Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) called a last-minute, pre-emptive strike on Wednesday with a group of prominent Democratic lobbyists, warning them to advise their clients not to attend a meeting with Senate Republicans set for Thursday.
Russell Sullivan, the top staffer on Finance, and Jon Selib, Baucus chief of staff, met with a bloc of more than 20 contract lobbyists, including several former Baucus aides.
They said, Republicans are having this meeting and you need to let all of your clients know if they have someone there, that will be viewed as a hostile act, said a Democratic lobbyist who attended the meeting.
Going to the Republican meeting will say, Im interested in working with Republicans to stop health care reform, the lobbyist added.
Republican leaders have been meeting with health care stakeholders for months, with those sessions occurring more frequently than once a month, according to a senior Senate GOP aide.
The stated purpose of Thursday's meeting, organized by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), is to discuss proposals for how to pay for health care reform.
But the underlying motivation for the get-together is to encourage health care lobbyists and stakeholders concerned about the Democrats health care reform plans to speak out publicly.
They need to speak up, one Senate Republican leadership aide said. They need to help us help them.
Thune said Democrats are using threats and intimidation to keep unhappy stakeholders silent.

The era of bipartisanship congressional legislation is over.
And the era of Mafioso thuggery has taken its place.
This sounds illegal to me. Especially the threats part. That seems to be part and parcel of Obama’s mo. Yegad.....
Just when I think “I’ve heard it all,” I read this.
“The era of bipartisanship congressional legislation is over. “
You don’t understand. According to the MSM pressholes, when Dems stick together it’s “solidarity” when Republicans stick together it’s “partisanship”.
Democrats are such prissy little cheats, aren’t they. Such pussys in the end. SO afraid of genuine dialogue and SO DEMANDING like little children aware of their parents wealth and using it to batter the poor kids.
F_cking Nazis.

We are at war. No ifs, ands, or butts - we are at war.
I am concerned because the liberals and these entities that stand to gain so much under a single payer system are the only voices noticeably talking about this issue, while the physicians seem to remain silent. Yesterday I visited one of my specialists and asked him if my perception is correct and why it might be so. (This is a sharp, successful physician who practices state of the art medicine and is a superb surgeon.) He said physicians he knows are very distressed but no one dares speak out. He says they are being pushed around by the insurers, the large healthcare corporations, and the government. He gave me numerous examples of how these entities are controlling the physicians ability to work and at the same time pushing them into a corner financially and legally. He shared that physicians are especially concerned because of government intrusion / control and said that not only had he been audited a number of times but that his friend, a reputable physician, had been visited by armed FBI agents in a swat style raid because of alleged fraud. He also indicated that more and more physicians are attempting to organize into larger physician groups to protect their interests.
Tell me this is not a Facist Dictatorship.
MSM has been renamed State Run Media (SRM).
Do we still live in the land of the
FREE AND THE BRAVE? DOCTORS AND HEALTH CARE WORKERS BE BRAVE!!! STAND UP TO THE FACIST!
look for them now to put Single Payer back on the table and threaten to ram it thru reconciliation if any stakeholders meet with Republicans.
I’d like to have a face to face meeting with Russell Sullivan. What a POS RAT.
