If you are a small businessperson in any activity, how long can you sustain 29 percent losses or greater each year?" said Jerry Hayes, assistant chief of the Florida Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Plant and Apiary Inspection in Gainesville.
While total losses decreased slightly, the average operational loss increased to 34 percent in 2008-09 from 31 percent a year ago.
Hayes prepared the survey's preliminary results along with entomologists Dennis vanEngelsdorp, of Pennsylvania's Department of Agriculture and president of the AIA, and the USDA's Jeff Pettis.
A more detailed report will be published this year.
Experts blamed Colony Collapse Disorder, the malady characterized by the complete absence of bees in dead colonies that has been decimating the U.S. beekeeping industry in recent years, for some of the losses. The cause of the disorder is still unknown, but about 26 percent of apiaries surveyed reported that some of their colonies died of the collapse disorder - down from 36 percent of apiaries in 2007-08.
Other causes include premature queen death, starvation, cold, pests such as the varroa mite and pesticides, Hayes said.
Dave Hackenberg, a beekeeper who winters his bees in Florida, criticized the survey for not asking the right question. He said his hive numbers dropped from 3,500 in October 2008 to 2,800 this January, within the time period of the survey. But by February, he had lost 300 more hives.
"It's spring, but the hives aren't growing. I'm finding them blown out, dead or gone," Hackenberg said from Maine Tuesday.
Hayes added: "There have been beekeepers out there who have taken another phenomenal loss this year. Honeybees simply are not healthy.
Well, there are several “markers” for people to know that they’re actually in the Tribulation period.
One marker is that the Antichrist is revealed so that the whole world knows who he is and, in addition, he imposes a 7-year peace treaty with Israel. We also know that this involves the permission to rebuild the Third Temple, because the Temple is in place at the 3.5 year mark and sacrifices are being done — which are stopped at that point.
It takes about 12-18 months to actually build the thing in the first place. They’re not even preparing “ground” for it right now.
In addition, there are two witnesses in Jerusalem, that are mentioned in Revelation, who are killed at the mid-point mark of the Tribulation. That’s at 3.5 years.
They are visible and prophesying for 1,260 days, or 42 months or 3.5 years. They are not even there right now. So, we’re not even in the first 1,260 days of the Tribulation.
So, with all that — we aren’t even “inside” the Tribulation at all. When people have seen the Antichrist revealed, when they see the 7-year agreement (which is the *final one* and not an “interim one” like we’ve had so far) which includes the rebuilding of the Third Temple, when people see the two witnesses prophesying, and when they see the construction underway in Jerusalem for that Third Temple, then you can be looking to being *inside* the Tribulation time.
As the American honeybee is declining (probably due to global cooling) this country is being overrun by the aggressive African Bee.
“Experts blamed Colony Collapse Disorder”.....
Sounds like an Obama stimulus package to me.....
You’re taking a “historical viewpoint” of the Tribulation, in that you’re saying (if I read this right) that the Tribulation has occurred over the period of time from the Apostles, to the present time. That’s a totally different viewpoint than any that are presented in what are referred to as the current and well-known prophecy teachers of today (again, of the pre-mil, pre-trib and dispensational hermeneutic).
It “allegorizes” the Tribulation and presents some severe problems with the 70-weeks prophecy of Daniel. It gets everything out of whack and into a “smorgasbord” of prophecy (i.e., pick something here and pick something there) instead of something that is cohesive and fits together tightly in all its pieces.

The Four Views of Revelation

For the first time, scientists have isolated the parasite Nosema ceranae (Microsporidia) from professional apiaries suffering from honey bee colony depopulation syndrome. They then went on to treat the infection with complete success.
Was that a political statement?
Drivel....not welcome on a bee thread
You said — There was a thread posted on FR a while back that said that some researchers had discovered a cure to the Bee colony collapse, but darn if I can find it. Anyone remember the post?
—
Yeah, they found a cure for it. It was a virus (or a bacteria) that was infecting the hives. Once they found it, they found the cure and it worked...
I did read it here on Free Republic... (don’t know where though...)
Liberal Christian = apostasy
The doctrine of Balaam was a compromise of Christianity with paganism, resulting in idolotry and immorality which led many Israelites into sin. (Nelson King James Study Bible) see: Rev. 2:14
Tell them to come check my backyard on a random afternoon.
I believe they have the garments that have been sown, that will be worn in the re-built temple....
Matthew 24 and the Seals seem to allude to some of the Seals being opened....
Do you still think we are still in the Age of Grace?
I don’t see how, when Apostasy has arrived to the Church.
You said — I am not saying I AM 100% CORRECT, this is just what I am starting to believe from reading, prayers and the Signs Jesus told us to look for....

We are in the “End Times” as that is a period of time from the Apostles to the present time and will continue to be the “End Times” — until — the *start* of the Tribulation period.
Then the “End Times” will cease and it will be “The Day of the Lord” and/or the “Great and Terrible Day of the Lord”.
I think you may be getting the “End Times” (which as been going on for almost 2,000 years) with the 7-year Tribulation, which hasn’t happened yet.
We are not in the “Day of the Lord” yet, as foretold in the Old and New Testament...
I found it see post #23
I think they’re Democrat bees and have decided to stop working and let Hussein take care of ‘em.
I remember that. Seems a previously unnoticed parasite was killing the bee colonies (not global warming or pesticides). A simple pesticide was the cure. I'm searching but I haven't found it yet.
Well I don’t think Jesus Warnings are drivel...:)
OK, looks like everyone found it.
What happened to the Bat Collapse?
Bats are dying in large numbers throughout the Northeastern United States. The die off is being compared to the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) that swept through the beekeeping community. No clear-cut cause for either die off has been established but both species involved are important to the agricultural community. Pesticide use may be a contributing factor.
White Nose Syndrome
The bat dieoff , nicknamed White-Nose Syndrome for the white fungus found around the nose of affected bats, is confined to the Northeast at this time but it has spread into new states in the last few months. Agricultural experts in the area are concerned as bats are an important source of insect control. The four species of bat that are known to be affected include the Indiana bat, one of several endangered bat species. But all the affected species face increased risk of extinction if the outbreak can’t be controlled.
