Windows release sparks complaints

Microsoft has stirred up fresh complaints of anti-competitive behaviour with its release this week of a late-stage trial version of the next Windows PC operating system.
The complaints, from some of the leading makers of web browsers, look set to intensify the software companys regulatory headaches just as it is seeking to head off swingeing anti-trust action from the European Commission over a related issue.

What size screen on that?
Everyone else knows Microsoft views Apple as a competitor and threat. That is part of the reason for Vista and Win7....The consumers especially the ladies want the fancy visuals. The babes also got you those jelly bean cars
It needs to. My XP laptop is getting long in the tooth and will be replaced this fall. I've been looking closely at Apple.
As much as I like my IPhone, it is no substitute for a full keyboard, terabytes of hard drive space, and a 24"+ calibrated monitor.
If you are thinking Apple get on swordmaker’s ping list
1. How much memory required to run quickly & effectively?
2. Any website that can scan your harddrive and accurately access if W7 can run effectively?

says your laptop should handle it.

The pic perfectly illustrates the difference. I turned my Macs on last year, when I moved again! They're still running, virus free, trojan free, and working smoothly. I doubt Apple is worried about MS.
It's very obvious the other way... MS is quite good at buying somebody else's products, or just plain copying them. I love my Macs, and my iPhone. I have my second one, the 3G model. I've seen Windoze Mobile, and FRiend, MS sucks again!
Well I slightly disagree with your view that a handheld will replace everything. Computers are being used to burn discs and edit sound and video, I don’t see hand held units completely replacing those functions.
I do agree that hand-helds will do a lot of the internet intensive activities that desk tops and laptops used to do. A hand held isn’t practical for office word processing and storage, though a handheld is great for transporting files and interfacing with multiple computer from office to office.
Gamers are big into large monitor screens and huge horse power grphics that handhelds will never be able to do, simply because of power requirements and cooling necessary. I know some handhelds are being equipped with mini lcd projectors with OLED light sources that can project a fairly bright large view in a properly darkened room which will be good for business applications.
In short, different hardware for different needs!
just make sure you check for wireless range. My Macbook Pro has pretty crappy reception. I love it and will never go back to wintel machine but I got one of the first Macbook Pro 17 laptops and just don't get the good wireless reception that my brother in law gets with his Dell.
Of course maybe there is a reason that my home wireless network might not be great, but I don't know the difference between antennas and software between the two.
I think the plastic body Macs have great reception compared with the aluminum. Of course that's just my experience and may not reflect yours.
“BTW, Windows XP runs better on my Macbook than it ever did before.”
Isn’t that just funny! A good friend of mine works within a highly visible job at MS and he uses a Mac running XP and claims 30% better performance. He, of course, isn’t the only person to discover this.
I assume you're not old enough to be wearing reading glasses yet. You can keep your hand held crap, while some of us will continue to use stuff like telephones that still have a cord between the phone & the handle part.
I have a problem pushing little buttons & it's not just the difficulty seeing them, first switching to the proper reading glasses. How big of a "hand held" do you think I could get to cart around & would you make a big cart available so I could do it or do you plan to have people like me just SOL?
In my experience, 99% of today's computer programmers don't know what an interrupt is.
Too true.
Handheld the future? I don’t think so. You can pry my 24” flatscreen from my cold dead, um, video card. I’m seriously thinking of getting a 30”. I can do so much more with this than I ever could on a 14” CRT fifteen years ago, no way I’m trading it for an I-Phone.
My laptop is of an age that it doesn't have an internal WiFi setup. I have a USB antenna that works quite well.
My biggest beef with my present laptop is that it really bogs down on photographs. Each picture from my camera is about 25-30 Mbytes and the processor really slows down when processing these. Also, the monitor isn't really suitable for working with images - the contrast changes drastically if my eyes are even a little off center. Consequently, I do all my image work on the desktop at home.
I could also use more than 2 USB ports. I've tried those adapters that turn 2 into 4 ports, but they have hiccups on my machine. I can't add any more memory - it's maxed out at 1 gig.
I've heard good things about the macbook's monitor.
I myself have a 20” IBM/Trinitron P200 on my desktop. That’s what I meant when I specified that the unit would be mated to your TV.
there is a Freeper named “swordmaker” that is pretty good for info.
