You’all see the Derby on Saturday?? Definitely movie material: A trainer on crutches (whose horses have won only one race out of 39) drives a small third-rate horse 1,500 miles from New Mexico to Kentucky behind an old pickup for the Run for the Roses. He’s bumped coming out of the gate and is in last place way behind the rear of the field. Somehow he makes his way to the front of the pack and wins going away by 6 1/2 lengths! Only one horse in 1913 has overcome greater odds (50-1) and only one horse has won that far ahead of the rest of the field (6 3/4 lengths). He didn’t even bet on his horse and expected the showing would be respectable, but never this. Somehow he won!!
It was a teriffic race, Dave! I got a charge out of the jockey, he was so happy!
That was nice.
