“...Her uncle’s remains will be cremated, she said, and scattered in the Pacific Ocean near Santa Barbara, Calif....”

Nice sentiment, but it’s California after all. I don’t think it’s actually legal to do so!

Anyone read Into the Wild?

The author talks about this guy in addition to Chris McCandless.

Maybe it's the decades of marriage, mortgage, raising teenagers and a dead end job, but stories like this make me wonder what life would be like if I could just wander and explore.

Except for the getting clubbed to death part...that's kind of a bummer.

***Delinquent Utes.***

just doing the killings the Navajos wouldn’t do.

Back in the 1960s and 70s I used to read a lot of True West magazines and my favorites were the stories of the intertribal warfare between the Utes and Navajos.

lonely, meager, dangerous, boring, no one cares, no one misses you, no one prays for you, no one needs you,

and O did I say ... lonely, lonely, lonely?

Read the book WITH A CAMERA IN OLD NAVAJO LAND by Earle R. Forrest ( University of Oklahoma press).

Sounds like life in most big cities but as an explorer at least the scenery might be better.

True. The solitary life is unchallenged in some ways,, quiet, BORING often, not designed to add interest or meaningful purpose to life,

On the other hand ... it is less costly, allows us not to grow, and expand the physical, mental, emotional and probably spiritual sides of ourselves. Being married forces us to grow. Having children forces us to grow. Being ill/sick forces us to grow. Left on our own we might not be very interested in growing.

There are notable exceptions, of course ... Einstein, Edison, the Astronauts, Andrew Carnegie, George Washington Carver, Henry ford, the Wright Brothers, ... to name a few.

Our fathers ... we all desire to get away from it all occasionally ... probably why golf is such an attraction to men.

Only try really getting away from it all; and learn how quickly we yearn to have our life back the way it was. JMO.

Oh pshaw! Obviously, these oppressed minorities were just striking back against the institutional racism of "The Man".

They just chose to express themselves by clubbing a man to death. Perfectly acceptable.
