Patrons of the Disabled American Veterans club came to the rescue when a knife-wielding robber tried to steal a bag of money from the South Manatee establishment Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say Frederick P. McGhee, 34, of the 200 block of Apricot Street in Bradenton came into the D.A.V. tavern at 111 63rd Ave. E. around 3:45 p.m. Sunday armed with a knife.
McGhee swung the knife at a patron and then tried to run out with a money bag containing about $1,600, according to an arrest report.
Darrell Dawson knocked the knife out of McGhees hand, and then several patrons gave chase when McGhee tried to run from the club, the report said.
McGhee was caught, tackled and held down until deputies arrived and arrested McGhee on a charge of strong-armed robbery.
McGhee, who had drug paraphernalia on him at the time, told a deputy he carried out the robbery because he could not get a job and had no one to help him, the report said.
That should be “DHS Watch List Types....” Rats!
The fools just proved Bammy’s goons right! The poor disavanage robber was mergely doing his part to redistribute the wealth and then these guys go and prove that just like conservatives patriotic vets just want to keep the man down!!!
How is a sincere criminal, trying hard, going to get ahead
in his profession if his victim fails to cooperate?
Almost all crime depends on the cooperation of the victim.
If the victim refuses his assigned role, the criminal is
placed at a disadvantage, one so severe that it usually
takes an understanding and compassionate judge to set
right.
LAZARUS LONG
Pretty low to rob the disabled vets, wasn’t it?

Darrell Dawson knocked the knife out of McGhees hand, and then several patrons caught the suspect and beat the ever livin’ crap out of the suspect, then held him till the police arrived 25 minutes later, when someone finally remembered to call the police, the report said.
(fixed it)
“Pretty low to rob the disabled vets, wasnt it?”
Of course not, you see all us vets are considered extremists and bad guys now!
LOL! Good thing those crime-fighters were in having a drink on Sunday afternoon!
Must be those “disgruntled veterans” we have been hearing about.
We need a very good attorney who is a former JAG officer to get a case to SCOTUS of active duty military listed as John and jane Doe to protect them. We need to demand proof of NBC status and Hussein’s BC.
Let SCOTUS shirk their Constitutional duty and tell our troops they have no standing. Maybe John Paul Stevens can tear himself away from his Shakspeare research for a few moments.
Bump for the headline.
These vets have plenty of monet they can afford to pay, but you have no idea what this robber’s overhead is like there drugs and alcohol, cigerette taxes, illegal gun purchases, lap dances, just some of the cost of being a sucessfull thief these days.
You forgot bail money!
Yes, in our enlightened age of Hope and Che’nge, we are supposed to let the looters run free.
